Days 4 - 8: Volga River
Over the coming days, relax and enjoy life aboard, whilst you cruise along the Neva river, stopping for sightseeing at ancient Golden Ring towns and charming villages. With a beautiful backdrop of rolling hills, rivers, forest and steppes, cruise beyond Lake Ladoga to picturesque Kizhi Island on Lake Onega. Here you can explore the open air museum, UNESCO protected churches and the fine arts museum. The next port of call is Goritzy, where you’ll visit the Monastery of St Cyril on the White Lake - one of the oldest and most famous monasteries in Russia, dating back to the 14th century. The monastery is a home to the most exquisite icon collection in the world. In Yaroslavl explore the incredible Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Saviour and see the beautiful frescoes in Church of Elijah. Continuing your journey, head to the favoured city of Ivan the Terrible, historical Uglich, where you enjoy a walking tour of the Kremlin and the cities most famous site - The Church of St. Dimitry on Blood.
