Friday 15 May 2015. Welcome to Russia and the start of your holiday! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in. This evening our welcome meeting will take place, where you'll meet the rest of your group and your tour leader. Spend the rest of the evening at your own leisure, enjoying a drink or two with fellow travellers. Overnight - St Petersburg
First thing this morning we will enjoy a driving tour of the city, offering a perfect introduction to this enchanting city. Travelling by mini bus we will drive along Nevsky Prospekt, the main stretch of St Petersburg's city centre, with stops at the famous Church of Spilled Blood (exterior only) and Peter and Paul Fortress. Dating back to 1703, the Peter and Paul Fortress is one of the oldest buildings in all of St Petersburg. During a tour of the fortress grounds we will learn all about its history as a political prison - once containing the likes of Dostoevsky and Lenin’s older brother, Alexander. Later we enjoy a guided tour of the amazing Hermitage art collection, located in the majestic Winter Palace. Enjoy the rest of the day at your own leisure, before the main event this evening.

At 9pm we will set off for our Night at the Museums Event, accompanied by our guide, with private transportation and inclusive of entrance fees. Over thirty of St Petersburg’s most respected museums and art galleries will stay open on Saturday 16th May 2015 until 6am the following morning for this wonderful annual event, which is accompanied by unique exhibitions, street art and performances around the city. The city of the Tsars becomes a hive of late night activity as people flock to see some of the St Petersburg's finest cultural offerings. In previous years we have visited the following museums: The Museum of Political History, the Planetarium, the Geological Museum, The Gallery of Modern Art and St. Isaac’s Cathedral where we enjoyed a classical music performed by the city Symphony Orchestra.
