Today the road is scattered with numerous stone markers and other monuments including the famous Broken Ring, which marks the spot where the ice road across the lake would have begun.

Along the road we stop in at the Road of Life Museum, where you can see numerous wartime relics and follow the story of those who risked their lives working on the ice road or driving supplies into the city. We also visit the shore of Ladoga Lake where we can see a view of Oreshek fortress. Set on a tiny island in the middle of the lake, this fort was bravely defended by Soviet troops throughout the siege.

Following a break for lunch we visit the small Diorama Museum, set in the exact location where one of the most critical battles took place that resulted in the end of the siege. I cannot speak highly about my experience. The country is beautiful, the people were lovely, the history is interesting and our guides Katya + Natasha were above and beyond the call of duty to help us with lost luggage, extra information and facilitating extra visits whenever possible. They are both a credit to the company and the country.
