Day 1

24 December 2015. Welcome to Russia and the start of your winter holiday! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in. This evening our welcome meeting will take place, where you'll meet the rest of your group and tour leader. Spend the remainder of the evening at your own leisure.
Overnight: St Petersburg

Day 2

Merry Christmas! Start today with an ideal introduction to St Petersburg by embarking on a tour of the city, giving us a run-down of all the main sights. Travelling by mini bus along the famed Nevsky Prospekt, we will drive past the museum and university districts and make a few stops at sites of interest - including the iconic Church on Spilled Blood (exterior only). Later we will enjoy a tour of Peter and Paul Fortress and the world-famous Hermitage Collection at the Winter Palace. Spend the rest of the day further exploring the city - why not head to a local bar or restaurant and enjoy a few Christmas drinks!

During our time in St Petersburg there may be the chance to join one of our optional evening excursions, such as a traditional Cossacks performance or a night at the Russian Ballet.
Overnight: St Petersburg  |  Breakfast

Day 3

Today you can either enjoy a free day of exploration on your own, or there is the option to purchase our Pukka Pass. The pass offers guided sightseeing, entrance fees, lunch and transport to some of St Pete’s most famous sites. Touring includes the exquisite interior of Catherine Palalace at Tsarskoe Selo (or Pavlosk Palace if Catherine Palace is closed). Later we will enjoy a tasty lunch at a local restaurant, and after we will continue with a guided tour of the interior of The Church on Spilled Blood with time to shop in the souvenir market located alongside the church.
Overnight: St Petersburg  |  Breakfast

Day 4

St Petersburg - Pskov. Enjoy a free morning to explore the nation’s cultural capital your way. This afternoon we will drive to ancient Pskov, which is built around a riverside kremlin with a beautiful cathedral.
Overnight: Pskov and Pechory  |  Breakfast, Dinner

Day 5

Pskov - Moscow. This morning, a short drive takes us to tranquil Pechory Monastery, founded in 1473. A sea of colours and architectural styles prevail in the grounds of this still-working cloister, where if monastic law permits, we can explore the fascinating burial caves where some 10,000 souls rest. After our guided tour it’s time to turn up the heat at a local Russian banya (sauna) coupled with a hearty lunch. After steaming up in the banya, the brave among you can run outside to cool down with a roll in the snow! This afternoon we enjoy a guided tour of Pskov before catching the overnight sleeper train to Moscow.
Overnight: Sleeper Train to Moscow  |  Breakfast, Lunch

Day 6

An early morning arrival will bring us to Moscow - Russia's thriving capital city. After dropping off our bags at the hotel we will hop on to the Moscow Metro and make our way to Red Square where we will enjoy a walking tour. Within the Red Square we will find the iconic domes of St Basil’s Cathedral, Lenin's Mausoleum, the imposing red brick walls of the Kremlin and the glitzy Neo-Russian facade of the GUM shopping mall. Enjoy free time for the rest of the day.

During our stay in Moscow there will be the chance to join one of our optional evening excursions, such as a traditional Cossack Show or a Moscow by Night coach tour.
Overnight: Moscow  |  Breakfast

Day 7

Journeying back to Red Square this morning, we will embark on a guided tour of the Moscow Kremlin - Russia’s bastion of power. Walking through the grounds we’ll see numerous governmental buildings, gold-domed cathedrals and the tsar bell.

Later opt to join us for a guided tour of a formerly top secret Soviet Bunker. Our bolt-on allows you to head 65 meters underground to explore a Stalinist-era bunker that up until recently was a top secret symbol of Soviet Power. See the giant tunnels and get a guided tour of the rooms and secret paraphernalia followed by a tour of some of Moscow's most impressive Stalinist era metro stations, an example of grandiose over exuberance.
Overnight: Moscow  |  Breakfast

Day 8

Today we head to Gorky Park, Moscow's largest and most popular park. During the festive season, a vast area of the park is transformed into a giant ice skating rink, where we'll test our skating skills and enjoy some winter fun. Skates are available for hire locally. Tracks are also created in Gorky Park for cross-country skiers too, so if you fancy partaking in some more winter pursuits opt to hire some skis or throw a snow ball or too!

The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the final day of the year your own way. There’s plenty of museums, shops and bars to entertain you in the capital. For your New Year’s Eve celebrations there’s no shortage of bars and nightclubs, otherwise head to Red Square with your guide to join the crowds - of both locals and travellers alike, to ring in the New Year. With an electric atmosphere and a spectacular firework show illuminating the distinctive turrets of St Basil’s Cathedral above the frosty square, this will be a party to remember!
Overnight: Moscow  |  Breakfast

Hi Jodie and Sarah,

I just wanted to take a moment to provide you with some feedback on The Big Russki Tour that my wife Natalie and I did this past Christmas and New Year.

First of all, thank you! We had an incredible time which was in no small part down to our amazing tour leader Ekaterina Shurukhina (Katya). Katya was amazing! So knowledgeable, friendly, funny and most of all professional. We just wanted to once again say a BIG THANK YOU to Katya for her hospitality during our tour of her wonderful country. We could not have wished for a better guide during our trip. It's great to meet someone that clearly loves their job as much as she does. We have been raving about our trip to anyone who will listen. We have been telling everyone how great On the Go Tours are and we look forward to doing another one again (hopefully soon) in the future. Natalie and I both agree that it is the best trip we have ever done, so thank you :)

Matthew and Natalie Jamieson

This trip exceeded my expectations. Having such a fantastic tour leader really made this trip for me.
