Welcome to Russia and the start of an amazing holiday. We will be there to welcome the you at the airport and our English speaking guide will transfer you to your hotel. The double room for 2 people only is booked for immediate check-in (the remaining rooms should be ready after 2-3pm). We have noted that Antonia has her own arrangements and will need to make her own way to the start hotel.
Today starting at approx.09:30am we enjoy a city tour as we pass by new Maiden Convent and enjoy the view from Sparrow Hill. We explore the Tretyakov Gallery which houses the best examples of Russian art, from icons to modern art, including Soviet propaganda paintings. We also take a ride on the underground, seeing the Moscow Metro stations, built during Stalin’s rule as “palaces for the people”. Lavish designs, with columns and chandeliers, sculptures and paintings, they truly are a sight to behold. Dinner tonight is booked at the "O2" restaurant for 07:30pm (payable locally).
Today starting at approx. 10am we take a walking tour to the Red Square and visit the famous GUM Department Store and the great Moscow icon - St Balis Cathedral. We head to the legendary Red Square and on to the mighty Kremlin - seat of Russia’s power; where we enjoy a guided tour or the Kremlin and Armoury, taking in the the cathedrals, the treasures in the armoury chamber.
A free day to enjoy Moscow independantly your way today (check-out generally 10am you can store your luggage and explore Moscow independantly). This evening we will pick you up from the Ritz Carlton at 22:15 transfer you to the train station for the overnight Grand Express train departing approx. 23:45 to St Petersburg.
Upon arrival at approx. 08:35 we will pick you up from the train station and transfer you to your hotel (check-in after 2-3pm). Starting approx. 10:30am we enjoy a half day guided visit to perhaps the best museum in the world, housed in a majestic building - the Hermitage. With only 10% of the 3 million exhibits on show, the variety and quality of the museum is breath-taking, ranging from gifts to the Tsars to archaeological finds and includes masterpieces from some of the greatest painters.
We start today approx. 10:00am with a visit to the Peter and Paul Fortress. Within the Peter and Paul Fortress compound is SS Peter and Paul Cathedral with its angel shaped weather vane perched on top of the razor thin needle; housing the tombs of the Romanov monarchs. We will also visit the Church on Spilled Blood and St Isaac's Cathedral. Dinner tonight is booked for 07:30pm at the L'Europe (payable locally).
Today, we begin at approx. 10:00am and visit Catherine's Palace and Park and park. Enjoy lunch at “Podvorye” Restaurant which has traditional wooden Russian décor and national cuisine. The remainder of today is free for you to enjoy at your leisure.
We bid you farewell today and will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight.
