Welcome to the city of the Tsars! We will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to the hotel and get you checked in.
This morning we visit Peter and Paul Fortress, home to the SS Peter and Paul Cathedral, housing the tombs of the Romanov monarchs. Situated on the banks of the River Neva and partly housed in the breathtaking Winter Palace, is the world famous Hermitage collection - one of the world's largest art collections. This afternoon we will enjoy a guided tour, to see the highlights of this incredible collection.
Today we enjoy an in-depth tour of the Yusupov Palace and St. Isaac's Cathedral and the Church on Spilt Blood, some of the city's must see highlights. Remainder of the day at your leisure.
Today is a free day and gives the opportunity to shop for souvenirs, maybe some wooden dolls or russian memorabilia found at the canal side market near the striking Church on Spilled Blood. Or take a walk along Nevsky Prospekt.
Today we visit a summer palace of the Tsars, either Peterhof or Catherine Palace. Both stunningly beautiful buildings, the Peterhof boasts one of the largest fountains in the world, whilst Catherine Palace is home to the Amber Room, made from several tons of amber. Later, we transfer to the train station for our overnight journey to Moscow.
After hotel check-in, we head to legendary Red Square and on to the mighty Kremlin - seat of Russia’s power; where we enjoy a guided tour or the Kremlin and Armoury, taking in the the cathedrals, the bell-tower complex, the treasures in the armoury chamber and the largest bell in the world (200 ton) which has never been rung and is situated near the Tsar cannon that has never been fired.
We explore the Tretyakov Gallery which houses the best examples of Russian art, from icons to modern art, including Soviet propaganda paintings. This afternoon, we take a ride on the underground, seeing the Moscow Metro stations, built during Stalin’s rule as “palaces for the people”. Lavish designs, with columns and chandeliers, sculptures and paintings, they truly are a sight to behold.
Today you will take a group guided tour of a Cold War Soviet bunker. Head 65 meters underground to explore a Stanlinist-era bunker that up until recently was a top secret symbol of Soviet Power. Cleverly hidden beneath an ordinary apartment building, on a busy stret in the heart of Moscow, constructed in secret to protect the select few against a US nuclear attack.
