Remainder of the day free time to explore at leisure. Stunningly grandiose St Pete’s - founded by Peter the Great in 1703 is built around a series of bridge-connected canals and rivers. We start the day with a city tour, driving along Nevsky Prospekt, we stop to see the outside of the Church on Spilled Blood and explore Peter and Paul Fortress, giving us a solid introduction of this beautiful city. At one time a gruesome prison within the Peter and Paul Fortress compound is SS Peter and Paul Cathedral - housing the tombs of the Romanov monarchs. We also explore the inside of the beautiful Church on Spilled Blood. Remainder of today is at your leisure.
Today you discover the treasures of the amazing Hermitage. With the possible exception of the Louvre, there is no museum in the world that rivals the Hermitage in size or quality - its collection is so large it could take years to view in its entirety. Once the home of the Russian Tsars, the Hermitage's collection is displayed over four buildings. After lunch we enjoy a boat ride taking in St. Petersburgs canals and bridges.
Explore the spectacular rooms and stunning gardens of the Peterhof Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Resembling a Russian Versailles, the palace features many grand fountains that are fed by natural springs. Your tour includes a visit to the Grand Palace. We then transfer to the train station for our day express train to Moscow. Arrival Moscow and transfer to our hotel. Evening at leisure.
The city that kept Bond busy. At Red Square, we enjoy a guided walk of the Kitay Gorod and Lubyanka area. Discover the delights of Vorobyovy Gory Park and the beautiful Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Red Square, home to St Basil’s, the GUM department store and Lenin’s Mausoleum. We then explore the Tretyakov Gallery which houses the best examples of Russian art, from icons to modern art, including Soviet propaganda paintings. The reminder of today is at your leisure.
This morning you will drive to Sergiev Posad to visit The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, which is said to be the most important Russian monastery and the spiritual centre of the Russian Orthodox Church. After lunch continue on to Suzdal. Dating back to 1024, ancient Suzdal forms part of the Golden Ring, with stunning medieval architecture and an astounding number of churches and monasteries, making it a major religious centre in Russia. This morning enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of Suzdal, including the white Kremlin, Krestovaya Palata marketplace, Museum of Wooden Architecture and Spaso-Efimievsky Monastery, you will also visit the rural town of Kideksha. Suzdal is a small, picturesque town in the Vladimir region, which is officially protected against unsightly 20th Century development, and loaded to the hilt with old buildings such as the Kremlin and Cathedral. After Lunch you will continue to Vladimir which was one of the medieval capitals of Russia. Enjoy a city tour before returning to Moscow for hotel check in.
This morning we will hop from station to station on the Metro, exploring the circle line to fully view and absorb the opulence of Stalin’s marble clad, chandelier lit underground stations. We then explore the mighty Kremlin, the political powerhouse of Russia and on this guided tour you'll explore the numerous government buildings and gold-domed cathedrals including the stunning Assumption Cathedral. There'll also be time to tour the extensive Armoury containing hundreds of opulent treasures.
Today we bid you farewell with a transfer to Moscow Airport to meet your onward flight (driver only).
