Welcome to St Petersburg and the start of your VIP adventure behind the Iron Curtain! Arriving on flight LF1432 at 13:50 our friendly local team eagerly await to transfer you to your hotel. This evening we have organised a welcome dinner, and although not included I am confident a few shots of Russia's famous Vodka will be enjoyed on the night. During dinner your tour leader Katya Shurukhina will give you a briefing on the upcoming voyage of discovery we have lined up for you.
Today we take a city tour that takes us to the main sights. We drive along colourful Nevsky Prospekt, then past the famous Church on Spilled Blood. Then a guided tour of the Peter and Paul Fortress, the oldest building in St Petersburg, which was built in 1703. This fortress was once used as a political prison - containing the likes of Dostoevsky and Lenin’s older brother, Alexander. Later we enjoy a guided tour of the amazing Hermitage art collection, located in the grand sky blue Winter Palace. When you've had your fill of Matisse, Picasso, Cezanne, Monet and more, the rest of the day is free for you to explore.
Enjoy a full day of guided sightseeing of more of St Pete's incredible sites. Highlights will include, the breathtaking Catherine Palace at Tsarskoe Selo home to the famous Amber room and Catherine Park. Another highlight is out stop for lunch overlooking Groboyedov Canal where we enjoy a hearty meal.
This morning we immerse ourselves with a guided tour of the interior of The Church on Spilled Blood with time to shop in the souvenir market located alongside the church. We later travel by private coach to Novgorod, departing 16:30 and arriving at 20:00. Enjoy dinner at the hotel after check in.
A tour of Novgorod takes in the riverside fortified kremlin, cathedral and other sights. The fortress was mentioned in chronicles as early as in 1044, whilst today’s walls and towers, despite being re-built in 15th century, are impressive all the same. After, we rest our aching bones with a steamy Russian banya (sauna). Tonight we have dinner with shots Vodka of course before catching the sleeper train to Moscow. Bring a deck of cards, bottle of Vodka and the evening will pass quickly while you travel on Russia's incredible network destined for Moscow.
Your train arrives into Moscow in the morning to the start of a new day and the gathering hustle and bustle. After transfer and check into your rooms, we head into Red Square to pay our respects to Lenin, the grandfather of Communism. This evening enjoy dinner at one of the many fantastic local restaurants, for the night owls head after to enjoy Moscow's famous nightlife.
Today, we tour Russia’s powerhouse - the mighty Kremlin, with a guided walk through the grounds. This is followed by a visit a formerly top secret Cold War bunker! Up until recently this Stalinist-era Soviet Bunker was a secret symbol of Soviet Power. We conclude the day with journey through some of the Stalinist era's most opulent METRO stations. Dress up! Your farewell dinner is tonight, hosted at another fantastic local restaurant - thereafter party the night away as you wish but first our Moscow by night experience will show you all the hot spots.
