Welcome to Moscow and the start of your holiday! We will be there to meet you at the airport and transfer you through to your hotel.
We start today with a metro ride and a tour of the beautiful stations enroute to legendary Red Square. We enjoy a walking tour of Red Square, GUM department store and Kitai Gorod. This afternoon at leisure - may be opt for ice skating at the Red Square - payable locally Euro 25 per person).
Morning at leisure. This afternoon we explore the mighty Kremlin - seat of Russia’s power; where we enjoy a guided tour or the Kremlin and Armoury, taking in the the cathedrals, the bell-tower complex, the treasures in the armoury chamber and the largest bell in the world (200 ton) which has never been rung and is situated near the Tsar cannon that has never been fired. Tonight we transfer to the train station for our train to Pskov (at 18:30).
Arrival Pskov 7:30am. We will be there to meet you at the station. Today we tour Pechory and explore Pechory monastery. We then have free time to relax with a Russia banya (approx 1 hr) and lunch. We then drive onto St Petersburg - no guide, driver only). In arrival we check into our hotel.
We start our St Pete's visit with the Peter and Paul Fortress - Within the Peter and Paul Fortress compound is SS Peter and Paul Cathedral with its angel shaped weather vane perched on top of the razor thin needle; housing the tombs of the Romanov monarchs. Formerly a prison, Dostoevsky, Gorky and Lenin’s brother all spent time in the somewhat gruesome political prison. Following this we visit the Church on Spilled Blood and lastly today the famous Hermitage Museum.
This morning we visit a summer palace of the Tsars, Catherine Palace. With its stunningly beautiful buildings. It is also home to the Amber Room, made from several tons of amber. The lavish Palace and gardens offer insight into the privileged lives of Russia’s Tsarsist aristocracy. Afternoon at leisure.
Today we enjoy a half day visit to the vodka museum, which of course also includes some vodka tasting.
