Welcome to the city of the Tsars! Arrival transfer to your hotel. Enjoy an orientation city tour by car with guide to give you an overal perspective of the city you will make a stop to visit church on spilt blood. Remainder of the day free time to explore at leisure.
We will transfer you to the bus stop for a shuttle transfer to Novgorod. Novgorod is one of Russia’s oldest cities, located within reach of the Volkhov River and Lake Ilmen. It was formed as a town in the middle of the 10th century. In Novgorod you will be met by your guide to enjoy a full days tour taking in the riverside fortified kremlin (St Sophia, Yaroslav Yard), Yuriev Monastery and the Museu of Wooden Architecture. The fortress was mentioned in chronicles as early as in 1044, whilst today’s walls and towers, despite being re-built in 15th century, are impressive all the same.
Day at leisure Novgorod. Tonight we travel by overnight sleeper train from Novgorod to Moscow.
Early this morning, we arrive into Moscow - the capital that spawned dozens of spy novels! We enjoy a city tour including passing by new Maiden Convent, visit the highest viewpoint over the city: Sparrow Hills and Christ the Saviour Church. This afternoon, at the south end of the square, feast your eyes on the wildly coloured, turban domed St Basil’s Cathedral, an enduring Russian symbol commissioned by Ivan IV (also known as Ivan the terrible) in 1555. We also visit the Tretaykov Gallery.
Today we will ride on the capital’s efficient Metro to Red Square. From here, we’ll take in the jewels of Russia’s capital on a guided walk in the Kitay-Gorod and Lubyanka area, taking in sights such as the Lenin’s Mausoleum, Kitai Gorod Area, the ritzy GUM department store and the epitome of Russian power – the Kremlin - Russia’s bastion of political might, where we enjoy a guided walk through the grounds, seeing numerous government buildings, gold-domed cathedrals and the tsar bell.
Today, we drive to Suzdal to enjoy a city tour incluing a visit to the Kremlin, Museum of Wooden Architecture.
We drive to Vladimir today to visit the Assumption and St Dmitry Cathedral. Before driving back to Moscow we visit Bogolubovo.
