The Great Wall of China is a must see experience so this morning we have included a drive beyond Beijing to Badaling, to walk (and almost a climb at times) a section of the Great Wall. Following a ridge of barren hills through northern China, it stretches as far as the eye can see - at least 6,700 km. Back in Beijing, take a stroll across historical Tiananmen Square. A vision in grandeur with its imperial yellow roofs and vermilion walls, the Forbidden City is a city within a city, once forbidden to all except those on imperial business until 1911, when the last emperor Puyi was removed from power. Enjoy a guided tour through what was once the innermost sanctum of the city.
This morning we transfer you to Beijing rail station for the highspeed train to Harbin. On arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Enjoy a full day of guided sightseeing starting with Sun Island, a beautiful scenic park covering 38 square km. Take in St Sophia Church Square, Central Street and enjoy the Russian architecture that makes Harbin so unique. After lunch, we visit Memorial Tower before heading to Guogeli Street including the Russian market. Transfer back to your hotel.
We will transfer you to the train station for your overnight train to Irkutsk. Sit back and relax as the countryside passes you by.
Upon arrival in to Irkutsk you will be met by our local representatives and transferred to your accommodation at a local home.
Today is yours to explore Irkutsk, a town with the Asiatic influences of nearby Mongolia and China, and curious architecture - a legacy of Siberia’s aristocratic exiles.
Spend the morning at leisure in Irkutsk before your late afternoon transfer to the train station for your onward journey to Yekaterinburg across the tracts of Siberia.
Today is spent watching the world fly by from the train window as you travel from Irkutsk to Yekaterinburg.
Pulling into Yekaterinburg late this evening you will be met by our local representatives and transferred to your accommodation at the local homestay.
After breakfast, take a city tour which visits the new monastery that marks the site of the Romanov family’s execution in 1918 and Ganina Yama - a beautiful monastic complex built on the site where their bodies were discarded and later found. The tour also takes you to the Europe/Asia border where you can stand with a foot in each continent!
An included transfer back to the train station for a morning departure to Moscow.
This morning you pull into Moscow train station where you will have free time to explore Moscow before boarding your overnight train to Novgorod.
Your visit of begins with a tour of the historic Kremlin (Fortress) grounds and the open air museum of Russian wooden architecture. You’ve free time to admire Novgorod - listed by UNESCO as one of the top 100 cities of the world which are of great historical and cultural value due to its having over six hundred unique historic, architectural, and cultural monuments. Why not soak up the views from a leisurely walk along the Volkhov river, visit one of the great medieval abbeys, or wander round the quaint shops and bars.
This evening board your overnight train back to Moscow.
