Add a twist and spice up your holiday by attending one of South America's exhuberant festivals while you're away. Famed as the biggest, most colourful and best choreographed street carnival in the world, the legendary Rio Carnival is a time to sing, dance, party and have fun whilst immersing yourself in true Brazilian spirit. Our 5 day Rio Carnival Bolt-on is offered to travellers who are undertaking a group tour with us that starts or ends in Rio De Janeiro close to carnival time. See bolt-on details below. Or for those who just want to attend the carnival, without group tour arrangements we offer our Go to Rio Carnival - 5 day stand alone package.
Alternatively for something a little more unusual, combine a classic tour of Peru with Inti Raymi or Festival of the Sun, which is the most important festival in Cuzco and the second largest festival in South America. Dating back to the 15th century this colourful festival is held at the end of June at the winter solstice. The festival celebrates the start of the Andean New Year, when crowds gather to dance and celebrate. Inti Raymi begins outside the Santo Domingo Church where the current Sapa Inca will call for a blessing from the Sun and is then carried aboard a golden throne in a procession, joined by high priests, officials of the court and nobles, all dressed in brightly coloured ceremonial robes, blessing the people.
