Etched into the desert landscape on the coast of Peru, the strange and mysterious Nazca Lines are one of Peru’s star attractions. The Nazca lines and shapes include a monkey, hummingbird, condor, spider and even a spaceman. You’ll also visit some of the world’s highest sand dunes at Huacachina Oasis, the ancient mummies of Chauchilla Cemetery and experience the celebrated wildlife-rich Ballestas Islands. The Ballestas Islands are teeming with over 150 species of bird life (including penguins, cormorants, boobies and pelicans), thousands of sea lions and boast some amazing rock formations. Although it is not possible to set foot on the islands, you’ll experience the magnificent sight and sounds of the thousands of sea lions and birds and maybe even spot seals and dolphins playing around the boat.
Day 1 - Lima
Transfer from your hotel in Lima and travel by public bus to Nazca, an oasis town famous for the strange parallel lines and geometrical figures etched into the desert floor. Although there is a viewing tower, these strange designs can only be fully appreciated from the air.
Day 2 - Huacachina Oasis
The next day, there’s the option to take a flight over the famous Nazca Lines before visiting the Chauchilla Cemetery on the way to the sand dunes of Huacachina Oasis. Here you can take an optional excursion on a 4WD buggy into the sand dunes or go sand boarding. You continue to Pisco where you spend the night.
Day 3 - Ballestas Islands
The following morning transfer to Paracas and board a speedboat for a two hour excursion to see the Ballestas Islands with an English speaking guide. Our boat trip also takes us past the mysterious Candelabro figure etched on the side of a mountain. Mid afternoon you will make the three hour journey back to Lima by public bus. On arrival you will be transferred back to your hotel.
