Welcome to Peru and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! Our local representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall of Lima's international airport ready to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel where the rest of the day can be spent at leisure.
Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Lima (shared basis). Many of the city’s most imposing and important buildings were built around the Plaza Mayor in the heart of the old town. Here you’ll find the opulent facade of the Palacio de Gobierno, or Presidential Palace, where each day the ceremonial changing of the guard takes place. Nearby is the austere Catedral and various small palaces and balconied edifices that helped Lima claim UNESCO World Heritage status. Discover contemporary Lima in the form of the plush suburb of San Isidro and lively Miraflores before continuing to the quiet district of Pueblo Libre to see the stylish hacienda museum, which exhibits hundreds of excellently preserved ceramics.
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight (NOT INCLUDED) to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. Explore this colourful and historic city later in the afternoon (shared basis). Considered the archaeological capital of South America, Cuzco is home to some of the finest examples of Inca history and architecture, which you will discover touring the sights of the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral and the Koricancha complex – a supreme example of Inca stonework. Head out further afield to tour the Kenko Amphitheatre, the fortified hunting lodge of Puca Pucara, the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay and the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman.
Tracing a particularly scenic course from Cuzco all the way to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley was greatly appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities and contains numerous archaeological remains. On the way to the ancient village of Urubamba stop to visit Awanacancha, an Andean textile centre where the art of Incan textile is kept alive. Continue to the archaeological complex of Pisac, formed of a collection of remains of Incan dwellings, temples and terracing. Enjoy a spot of shopping and practise your bartering skills at the local market before stopping for lunch. The day of touring concludes with a visit to the impressive fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo. (Touring on shared basis).
No place in Peru quite captures the imagination like the legendary ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu. Nestled in a saddle between two forested mountains and surrounded on three sides by the Urubamba River, its location couldn’t be more awe-inspiring. The city itself is brilliantly preserved, a classical Inca-style complex of polished dry-stone walls and temples. This morning explore the citadel and the wonderful Temple of the Sun and magical Temple of the Moon on a three hour guided excursion (shared basis). Other highlights include the fascinating Sacred Plaza and the elaborately carved Intihuatana rock. Lunch is provided at a local hotel.
Enjoy a morning at leisure. Consider revisiting Machu Picchu independently or visit the thermal hot springs of Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon return to Cuzco by train where upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Today sample more of Peru’s train journeys with a spectacular 10 hour rail journey to Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Passing the gentle, rolling Andean Plains where vicuña and alpacas roam freely, the train climbs to 4335m above sea level at La Raya, offering incredible views of the towering, snow-capped Andean mountains. During the journey you will be served a three course lunch in the dining car followed by coffee served in the observation-bar car. Arriving into Puno you will be transferred to your hotel.
After breakfast we will head to the port of Puno where a yacht will be waiting to take us to the floating islands of Uros. These beautiful islands are inhabited by fishermen and hunters. They create and enlarge the islands by using totora from the lake directly. We continue our journey on to Taquile Island. The peasant community of this island has kept intact the customs and traditions of their ancestors. Just after lunch, we will have a walk around and visit some archeological remains and the beautiful beaches from which you will have the chance to appreciate the immensity of the highest navigable lake in the world. (Touring on shared basis).
Today we will transfer you to the airport at Juliaca for your flight to Lima (NOT INCLUDED). Upon arrival transfer to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.
This morning you will take a public bus to Paracas with transfers supplied on both sides. Arriving into Paracas enjoy a morning flight over the Nazca Lines. From the plane you will be able to see these giant figures, which were created with an impressive precision about 1500 years ago. Many theories exist about the origin of these lines.
This morning you'll depart by motorboat to the Ballestas Islands. On the way to the islands you'll be able to observe the "candelabro", a figure in the sand dunes which resembles a trident. Various contradicting theories exist about the origin of these figure. Arriving at the islands, you'll be able to watch sea lions, seabirds ranging from the guanay cormorant to Peruvian pelicans and if we're lucky you might even see one of the famous Humboldt penguins (approx. 2hr tour on shared basis). In the afternoon transfer to the bus station to board the regular bus back to Lima. Arrival in Lima, meeting service and transfer to the hotel.
Transfer to the airport this morning for your flight to Puerto Iguazu (NOT INCLUDED). Transfer to your hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.
Straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazu Falls are composed of over 250 separate cascades. Enjoy a full day excursion (shared basis) to the Argentinean side of the falls. A number of walking trails are available bringing you in front of or above the rapids. You’ll also see the dramatic Garganta del Diablo or Devil’s Throat, an awe-inspiring display of natural power.
Enjoy a day at leisure. Perhaps check out the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls.
Today marks the end of your adventure with On the Go Tours. After breakfast and hotel check out we will transfer you to the airport for your onward departure flight.
