On the way towards the Urubamba Valley, we will have the chance to visit Awanacancha. This Andean textile center has for principal objective to maintain the wealth of Incan textile art alive. Here we will learn about the dyeing techniques and instruments used for hundreds of years in the weaving of these famous textiles. Following this, we will take a tour of the Pisac archeological complex, formed by a collection of remains of Incan dwellings, temples, and terracing. We will then have a walk around the colorful Pisac Market. After lunch, we will end the day with a visit to the Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo. Overnight - Sol & Luna (Standard room)
Visit Chinchero. An attractive church built during the Colony is the highlight of this village. We take you to see the impressive archeological remains in the area. Continue to Maras, where you can still see the original Indian aristocratic coats of arms hanging on the outside of the church and houses. It is also the starting point for visiting the nearby Maras salt flats, a view of a patchwork of 3,000 wells that have been used since the Incan Empire. Finally, we visit Moray agricultural terraces, an impressive circular system of terraces, that enabled its engineers to generate different temperatures and reproduce all the ecological tiers found within the Incan Empire. We will transfer you to Ollantaytambo to the train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes. On arrival we will check you into the hotel. Overnight - Inkaterra Machu Picchu (superior room).
From here we will board the bus that will take you on a 20 minute ride up to the citadel of Machu Picchu, or Lost City of the Incas, which sits upon the summit bearing the same name, and is one of the most representative and recognized examples of Incan architecture. A guided tour of the Citadel includes the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and various burial grounds. Lunch included. In the afternoon, return to by train and upon arrival at the train station you will be met by our representative and private driver for your transfer to the hotel. At the appropriate time, transfer to the train station for your overland journey to Puno. This spectacular rail journey runs on the route between the beautiful Lake Titicaca and the historic Cusco. It then reaches the gentler, rolling Andean Plains, where vicuña and alpaca can be seen. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, which is also the highest point on the route. On the journey passengers are served a three course lunch in their dining car, followed by coffee served in the Observation-Bar Car. Finally the journey is dominated by the magnificent Andean mountains which tower over the deep valleys of the meandering Huatanay River. After 10 hrs train ride, arrival to Puno city.
