Day 1: Cuzco

Welcome to Peru and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! Upon your arrival at Cuzco's international airport you will be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a visit to to some of the city's most beautiful buildings, such as Koricancha, or Temple of the Sun; the Incan street of Loreto where you can admire the famous 12-sided stone; Ahuajpinta street, along which sit the remains of impressive Incan palaces and old colonial buildings such as the Cathedral; and the Museum of Colonial Art. We will then head towards the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman and the ruins of Kenqo, Tambomachay (also known as the Incan Baths) and the Tambo de Puca Pukara.

Day 2: Cuzco

Today we will visit the Sacred Valley and we will have a walk around the typical Indian market. There, every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, we can admire the customs of local people. We will have lunch in a local restaurant and then head to the Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo through Calca and Urubamba. Ollantaytambo was built to protect the entrance of this part of the Valley and prevent the possible invasions of tribes from the jungle. The Citadel consists of a series of superimposed terraces. We will have the opportunity to walk among the town’s little streets and get a clear idea of what this military, religious and cultural center was like during the Inca Empire.

Day 3: Cuzco - Aguas Calientes

Early morning we drive to the train station to board the train that will take us to the starting point of our hike. We start by visiting the Chachabamba archaeological complex to then embark upon an 8 km ascending trail, which after four hours takes us to the archaeological complex of Wiñaywayna (2650m/8692ft). This is an impressive complex made up of an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector. We then continue and climb to Intipunku, or The Sun Gate. From this fabulous spot we may contemplate the sacred citadel of Machupicchu. From Intipunku we descend to Machupicchu and then by bus to Aguas Calientes for overnight stay.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Cuzco

We wake up early and board a bus to Machupicchu where we begin a complete guided tour of the Inca citadel that will take approximately two hours. You will then have free time to walk around, climb up the Huaynapicchu Mountain, where one can experience spectacular views of all of Machupicchu, the valleys and mountains that surround it (please note that there are only 400 visitors allowed per day), or visit the Temple of the Moon or the impressive Inca Bridge. In the afternoon, we meet in the town of Aguas Calientes where, if you like, you can visit and relax in its hot springs. From here we take the train back to Cusco or the Sacred Valley, where we arrive after nightfall.
