Day 1: Lima

Bienvenidos a Peru! Welcome to Peru and the start of your journey through the land of the Incas. Upon arrival into Lima International Airport you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred to your hotel. After check in spend some time with our rep discussing your up-coming trip. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure

Day 2: Lima

For centuries Lima was considered the most beautiful city in Spanish America and today discover why with a morning tour. We explore the Plaza Mayor in the heart of the old town. Here you’ll find the opulent facade of the Palacio de Gobierno, or Presidential Palace, where each day the ceremonial changing of the guard takes place. Nearby is the austere Catedral and various small palaces and balconied edifices that helped Lima claim UNESCO World Heritage status. Discover contemporary Lima in the form of the plush suburb of San Isidro and lively Miraflores before continuing to the quiet district of Pueblo Libre.

Day 3: Lima

Spend the day at leisure to explore.

Day 4: Lima - Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

Early this morning board a flight to the remote jungle settlement of Puerto Maldonado - the starting point for a scheduled excursion into the Amazon Jungle. A boat ride along the Tambopata River brings you to your jungle lodge Hacienda Concepcion where you will spend the next three nights in a beautiful cabaña.

Day 5: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

A wide variety of excursions are on offer from guided walks through the jungle to twilight river cruises. Sail in small wooden canoes or test your vertigo on a canopy walkway. Over the today you will learn much about the Amazonian wildlife and its most colourful characters with excursions available to the Tambopata National Reserve, Gamitana Creek and the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve.

Day 6: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon - Cuzco

After breakfast transfer to the airport by boat and transfer for your flight to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. Arriving here, meet our local team who will transfer you to your hotel.

Day 7: Cuzco

Explore the ‘navel of the world’ and discover why it’s considered the archaeological capital of South America. Your scheduled city tour takes in the Incan streets of Loreto and Ahuajpinta where you’ll find the remains of impressive Incan palaces, as well as old colonial buildings such as the Catedral. Later in the day, head to the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman and the ruins of Kenko, Tambomachay and the Tambo de Puca Pukara. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 8: Cuzco - Sacred Valley

Today you explore the region known as the Sacred Valley, starting with the textile centre of Awanacancha where the art of Incan textile is kept alive. Continue to the archaeological complex of Pisac, formed of a collection of remains of Incan dwellings, temples and terracing. Practise your bartering skills at the local market before stopping for lunch then continue to the impressive fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo.

Day 9: Sacred Valley - Aguas Calientes

This morning a scenic train journey followed by a bus ride brings you to the legendary ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu. Set on a mountainous peak overlooking a deep canyon on the Urubamba River, the ancient Inca city is indeed one of South America’s most impressive sights. Be amazed by the incredibly well-preserved plazas, towers and temples as you enjoy a full days guided tour of Machu Picchu.

Day 10: Aguas Calientes - Cuzco

This morning you can opt to visit Machu Picchu at your leisure (bus ticket and entry ticket not included) Later at a local hotel in Aguas Calientes meet our rep who will assist in catching the train back to Cusco.

Day 11: Cuzco - Trujillo

This morning we assist you to the airport in Cuzco where you catch your flight to Lima, arriving here we will bring you to the bus station and assist in catching the overnight sleeper bus to Trujillo.

Day 12: Trujillo

Arrival transfer to your hotel. Later in the afternoon discover why the citizens of Trujillo are so proud of their history with a city tour. The well-preserved colonial mansions and pretty balconies lend the city character and a sense of timelessness whilst the Archaeology Museum displays the long process of development of Peru’s northern coastline.

Day 13: Trujillo

Your full day excursion today begins with the Huaca del Sol - the largest adobe structure in the Americas, and its twin, the Huaca de la Luna comprised of 11 platforms. Next visit the Rainbow Temple that dates back to the beginning of the Chimu culture and features spacious patios adorned with beautiful reliefs. Stopping for lunch at the traditional fishing village of Huanchaco you’ll see local fishermen in curiously shaped, single-man boats made of dried reeds. Later in the afternoon visit the ruined city of Chan Chan. Comprised of ten citadels and numerous internal structures, this massive complex has much to see and explore.

Day 14: Trujillo - Chiclayo

This morning head further north along the coast to Chiclayo. Along the way stop at the El Brujo archaeological complex that features a 30m-high pyramid covered in relief figures and motif paintings of divine characters. In Chiclayo tour the city’s main attractions, including the attractive Iglesia de Santa Veronica and grand colonial houses on the ‘Muses Route’. You then visit the Modelo Market and the Witch Doctor’s Market where elixirs, herbs and shamanic implements are all on sale.

Day 15: Chiclayo - Lima

Southwest of Chiclayo the Temple of Sipan has proved to be one of the richest tombs in the Americas. As the burial site of Mochica nobles and VIPs, the excavation of the tombs revealed a multitude of precious-metal grave objects, now housed in the Royal Tombs Museum alongside ceramics found in the valley. Your day tour continues with Túcume, an impressive collection of pyramids belonging to the Sican culture. Clustered around a hill, the 26 adobe pyramids are believed to have been the focus of annual pilgrimage. We then catch a flight back to Lima, where we have arranged an airport area hotel.

Day 16: Lima

Sadly your journey has come to an end, we will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
