Day 1: Lima

Welcome to Peru and the start of your journey through the land of the Incas with Round The World Experts! Upon arrival into Lima airport you will be met by our friendly local team and transferred to your hotel. After check in spend some time with our rep discussing your upcoming journey. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure.

Day 2: Lima

Today we discover why Lima has historically been such an important city with a sightseeing tour (shared basis) that covers Lima’s most impressive colonial buildings as well as a number of fascinating museums. The afternoon is free for you to explore Lima further.

Day 3: Lima - Cuzco

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. Cuzco is home to some of the finest examples of Inca history and architecture, which you will discover touring the sights of the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral and the Koricancha complex – a supreme example of Inca stonework. Head out further afield to tour the Kenko Amphitheatre, the fortified hunting lodge of Puca Pucara, the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay and the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman.

Day 4: Cuzco

Known as the Sacred Valley, the area between Cuzco and Machu Picchu is littered with traditional Andean villages and fascinating Inca ruins. Today you explore the region starting with the textile centre of Awanacancha where the art of Incan textile is kept alive. Continue to the archaeological complex of Pisac, formed of a collection of remains of Incan dwellings, temples and terracing. Practise your bartering skills at the local market before stopping for lunch then continue to the impressive fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo. Tonight we have our pre Inca trail briefing at around 6 pm.

Day 5: Cuzco - Inca Trail

The trek begins after a short bus journey and the first day is a relatively easy 4½ hour 13 kilometre walk which will get you limbered up for the highest pass at Warmiwañusca (4,200 metres) which you will reach before lunchtime tomorrow.

Day 6: Inca Trail

Today you will cover approximately nine kilometres in about 5-7 hours and after the high pass it's all down hill as the trail winds its way along old Inca stairs to our campsite.

Day 7: Inca Trail

Today we pass the ruins of Runkurakay, Sayacmarca and Phuyupatamarca, walking approximately 15 kilometres in seven hours.

Day 8: Inca Trail - Cuzco

The last morning, after an overnight stop at Wiñay-Wayna, you will rise early for the final walk to Machu Picchu and greet daybreak over the famous “Sun Gate”. There will then be time to explore on your own or simply take in the magnificence of the place after your guided tour. You will be given a time and meeting place to meet with our team who will assist you onto the train back to Cuzco. Arriving here, we take you to the hotel for a much needed hot shower!

Day 9: Cuzco

Sadly your journey through the Land of the Incas has come to an end, we will transfer you to Cuzco Airport in time for your flight home. Or why not consider extending your stay in Peru with a trip to either the Amazon or Lake Titicaca?
