Day 1: Lima

Welcome to Peru and the start of your journey through the land of the Incas with Round The World Experts! Upon arrival into Lima airport you will be met by our friendly local team and transferred to your hotel. After check in spend some time with our rep discussing your upcoming journey. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure.

Day 2: Lima

Today is a free day for you to explore Lima. Alternatively, join our shared city tour and take in the sights of Plaza Mayor, the beautiful Cathedral and fascinating Larco Herrera Museum. See our 'Enhance Options' for more details.

Day 3: Lima - Cuzco

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. After your transfer to the hotel spend a bit of time adjusting to the altitude. This afternoon we explore what is considered the archaeological capital of South America (shared basis). Cuzco is home to some of the finest examples of Inca architecture, which you will discover touring the sights of the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral and the Koricancha complex. Head out further afield to tour the Kenko Amphitheatre, the fortified hunting lodge of Puca Pucara, the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay and the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman.

Day 4: Cuzco - Sacred Valley

Today explore the Sacred Valley (shared basis), which was greatly appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities and as such contains numerous archaeological remains and villages. On the way to the ancient village of Urubamba we stop to visit Awanacancha. We then continue to the archaeological complex of Pisac, formed of a collection of remains of Incan dwellings, temples and terracing. Enjoy a spot of shopping and practise your bartering skills at the local market before stopping for lunch. The day of touring concludes with a visit to the impressive fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.

Day 5: Sacred Valley - Aguas Calientes

Enjoy the morning at leisure in the Sacred Valley or opt for our 'Maras, Moray & More' enhance option. After lunch we set off to the train station for a stunning Expedition train journey to the famous Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, spending the night at the town of Aguas Calientes.

Day 6: Aguas Calientes - Cuzco

No place in Peru quite captures the imagination like the legendary ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu. Nestled in a saddle between two forested mountains and surrounded on three sides by the Urubamba River, its location couldn’t be more awe-inspiring. The city itself is brilliantly preserved, a classical Inca-style complex of polished dry-stone walls and temples. This morning explore the citadel and the wonderful Temple of the Sun and magical Temple of the Moon on a three hour guided excursion (shared basis). Other highlights include the fascinating Sacred Plaza and the elaborately carved Intihuatana rock. Lunch is provided at a local hotel before you return by train to Cuzco.

Day 7: Cuzco - Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

Early this morning board a flight to the remote jungle settlement of Puerto Maldonado - the starting point for a scheduled excursion into the Amazon Jungle. A boat ride along the Madre de Dios River brings you to your jungle lodge where you will spend the next three nights in a beautiful cabaña.

Days 8-9: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

A wide variety of excursions are on offer from guided walks through the jungle to twilight river cruises. Sail in small wooden canoes or test your vertigo on a canopy walkway. Over the next three days you will learn much about the Amazonian wildlife and its most colourful characters with excursions available to the Tambopata National Reserve, Gamitana Creek and the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve.

Day 10: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon - Lima

Bidding farewell to the jungle head back to Puerto Maldonado by boat for your flight to Lima. If there is time be sure to visit the Inkaterra Butterfly House located close to the airport. Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, many of which can be seen at the Butterfly House. Upon arrival in Lima you will be transferred to your hotel where the rest of the day is free. Perhaps head to the local markets for a spot of bargain hunting or mark your final night in Peru in style at one of Lima’s trendy salsa clubs.

Day 11: Lima

Your amazing adventure concludes with hotel check out and a departure airport transfer for your onward journey.
