Venture outside of the city confines today on a scheduled excursion to visit the sacred Incan citadel of Pachacamac. Dominating a stretch of Peru’s coastline, this colossal ancient site was once a significant centre of pilgrimage dating back to the 3rd century. People would journey far and wide to consult the revered oracle at Pachacamac and you will get the chance to explore the ruins of the Sun and Moon temples as well as the House of the Virgins of the Sun. Return tothe city in the afternoon and spend some time in the Old city to see the Colonial buildings.
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. Afternoon tour of what is considered the archaeological capital of South America, Cuzco is home to some of the finest examples of Inca history and architecture, which you will discover touring the sights of the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral and the Koricancha complex – a supreme example of Inca stonework, on an afternoon scheduled tour. Head out further afield to tour the Kenko Amphitheatre, the fortified hunting lodge of Puca Pucara, the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay and the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman.
Today is at your leisure to explore. If you wanted you can catch a local taxi to the lesser visited site of Piquillacta then stop off in Saylla on your way back to eat the famous local dish of Chicharon (this is an excursion you generally only see locals doing, not tourists)
This morning our driver will collect for a journey out of town and drive through the mountains. First stop is Calca, which is a lovely town in the Sacred valley you rarely see tourists, enjoy time to wander before taking to the road and driving to Lares. Along the way you will stop to see some ruins that people often overlook, looking closely you will see Inca pottery laying around the floor. Passing through high mountains and snow peaks we arrive into Lares, spend some time in the lovely hot springs and time for lunch before returning on the same road to Cuzco. This evening you will have a pre departure briefing with your Inca Trail team.
We pick you up from your hotel at 5.40am and take you to the train for the picturesque journey to kilometer 104 - the start of the trail for us. From here, we have a walk of approximately 4 hours up to the Inca site Wiñay Wayna. You have joined the path in time to see the most impressive site on the whole Inca Trail!! We will then continue on to 'Inti Punku' ('Sun gate') from where you will have your first dramatic, panoramic view of Machu Picchu. We will walk down the last part of the trail towards the ancient city itself. On this day, we walk through Machu Picchu, getting a 'taster' for the tour the next day!
Explore this fabled lost Inca city with a guide for 2 hours then on your own for the rest of the day simply take in the magnificence of the place. Discover the cloud-shrouded ruins of palaces, baths, temples, storage rooms and some 150 houses, all in a remarkable state of preservation. Meet the rep in Agua Calientes and he will help in you getting the train back to Cuzco.
This morning we take you to the airport for your flight to La Paz (Via Lima). Arriving here, meet our driver who will take you to your hotel.
Enjoy a full day tour of this scenic city - visit world-class museums like the Gold, Murillo and Costumbrista, explore traditional street markets and head up to the Mirador de Killy Killy for fantastic views over the city. Later on marvel at the geological formations of the Valley of the moon, 10km outside of town.
This morning we catch an early flight to Uyuni. Arriving here, meet our local team who will take you to a basic hotel in town. Spend the afternoon buying some snacks and so forth for the journey to Chile ahead.
Today we drive to and through the incredible Salar De Uyuni. Spend the day with your private guide and driver stopping to explore Incahuasi Island, the Grotto of petrified seaweed, Cemetery of Trains and more depending on your interest and time permitting. (OVERNIGHT SAN PEDRO DE QUEMEZ)
Continuing our journey through this breathtaking region, the goal is to drive to Ojo De Perdiz. Along the way stops will be made to explore the small lagoons of Hedionda and Cañapa and take in the incredible volcanic landscapes along the way such as thermal pools and geysers. The journey through some of the most remote areas of planet earth comes to a close today along the way we stop to explore the fascinating natural wonders such as Laguna, “Sol de Mañana” Geysers and Laguna Colorada. Arriving into San Pedro de Atacama in the evening.
After breakfast visit the 12th century pre-Inca fortress of Pukara de Quitor. Continue to the ancient settlement of Tulor where circular dwellings are interconnected by common passages and patios. Dating to 800 BC the site is the earliest known settlement in the area and is now partially covered by the constantly moving desert sands. Later in the afternoon see the impressive Licancabur volcano on your way to the village Toconao where the volcanic Liparita stone is quarried nearby. Heading in to the centre of the Salar de Atacama, the largest salt lake in Chile, arrive at the Chaxa Lagoon where you’ll find pink flamingos congregating.
It’s an early morning departure today as you travel to the Geysers del Tatio for a picnic-style breakfast and a stroll around the geothermal fields to see the geysers and pools of boiling water and mud. In the afternoon enjoy a city tour with a visit to the outstanding Museo Arqueológico Gustavo Le Paige. Housing more than 380,000 artefacts including Neolithic tools, ceramics and gold and silver ritual masks, the museum is famed for its prehistoric mummies, notably the withered ‘Miss Chile’.
Today we spend the entire exploring the dramatic wind-eroded landscape of Valle de la Luna and Dead Valley. The angular geology is often compared to the surface of the moon and you’ll get the opportunity to visit salt caverns, hike in the valley and climb the sand dunes to marvel at the kaleidoscope of colours that appear over the Andes at sunset.
This morning we drive you to Calama Airport. Here, you catch your flight to Santiago and from there connect on your flight to Rio which arrives late PM. Meet our driver who will take you onto your hotel.
You'll soon find there is plenty to see and do today with your free time. There are trips up Sugar Loaf Mountain by cable car and Corcovado, with its famous Statue of Christ, for great city views. Another interesting journey is on the old tram system across the viaduct into the cobblestone neighbourhood of Santa Teresa. A walking tour of Rio's historic buildings is also a lovely way to pass an afternoon, or you may like to visit the Botanical Gardens or one of the famous beaches, such as Copacabana, Ipanema or Leblon.
