Day 1: Lima

Bienviendos a Peru! Welcome to Peru and the start of your journey through the land of the Incas. Upon arrival into Lima International Airport you will be met by one of our representatives and transferred to your hotel. After check in spend some time with our rep discussing your up-coming trip. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at leisure.

Day 2: Lima

For centuries Lima was considered the most beautiful city in Spanish America and today discover why with an optional scheduled morning tour. Many of the city’s most imposing and important buildings were built around the Plaza Mayor in the heart of the old town. Here you’ll find the opulent facade of the Palacio de Gobierno, or Presidential Palace, where each day the ceremonial changing of the guard takes place. Nearby is the austere Catedral and various small palaces and balconied edifices that helped Lima claim UNESCO World Heritage status.

Day 3: Lima - Cuzco

After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. Spend the afternoon at leisure to get use to the altitude.

Day 4: Cuzco

Cuzco is home to some of the finest examples of Inca history and architecture, which you will discover this afternoon touring the sights of the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral and the Koricancha complex – a supreme example of Inca stonework, on an afternoon scheduled tour. Head out further afield to tour the Kenko Amphitheatre, the fortified hunting lodge of Puca Pucara, the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay and the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman.

Day 5: Cuzco - Sacred Valley

Today we explore the Sacred Valley area today on a full day scheduled excursion. On the way to the ancient village of Urubamba stop to visit Awanacancha, an Andean textile centre where the art of Incan textile is kept alive. Continue to the archaeological complex of Pisac, formed of a collection of remains of Incan dwellings, temples and terracing. Enjoy a spot of shopping and practise your bartering skills at the local market before stopping for lunch. The day of touring concludes with a visit to the impressive fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo.

Day 6: Sacred Valley - Aguas Calientes

This morning we head off to explore the attractive colonial church of Chinchero. Continue to Maras where the original Indian aristocratic coats of arms hang on the outside of the church and houses. From here you can also see the salt evaporation ponds, a patchwork of 3,000 wells that have been used since the Incan Empire. Continue to the spectacular agricultural terraces of Moray, a circular system believed to have been used for agricultural experimentation during the Inca period. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before transferring to the train station for a stunning train journey to Aguas Calientes.

Day 7: Aguas Calientes

No place in Peru quite captures the imagination like the legendary ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu. The city itself is brilliantly preserved, a classical Inca-style complex of polished dry-stone walls and temples. This morning embark on a scheduled excursion to explore the citadel and the wonderful Temple of the Sun and magical Temple of the Moon on a three hour guided excursion. Other highlights include the fascinating Sacred Plaza and the elaborately carved Intihuatana rock. The afternoon is free for you to explore the sight at leisure.

Day 8: Aguas Calientes - Cuzco

Re visit Machu Pichu today in your own time. Later meet our rep in town who will assist you catching the train back to Cuzco, that arrives in the later evening.

Day 9: Cuzco - Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

Early this morning board a flight to the remote jungle settlement of Puerto Maldonado - the starting point for a scheduled excursion into the Amazon Jungle. A boat ride along the Tambopata River brings you to the Refugio Amazonas Lodge. This evening head out on boats to spot the illusive Caimans. (OVERNIGHT AT REFUGIO AMAZONAS LODGE)

Day 10: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

This morning we head into the trees to see the view from the canopy on the lodges amazon reserve this is followed with a trip through the forest to Oxbow Lake. After lunch at the lodge we take a boat transfer from Refugio Amazonas to TRC (Tambopata Research Center) Here is where the world famous Chuncho Clay Lick is situated and you will see this today by boat. (OVERNIGHT AT THE at Tambopata Research Centre)

Day 11: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

Today's highlight has to be a visit to the Macaw Clay Lick which is followed with a visit to the Floodplain Trail, Pond Platform and a night walk in the forest to encounter the nocturnal residents of the Amazon. (OVERNIGHT AT THE at Tambopata Research Centre)

Day 12: Puerto Maldonado and the Amazon

Bidding farewell to the jungle head back to Puerto Maldonado by boat for your flight to Lima. If there is time be sure to visit the Inkaterra Butterfly House located close to the airport. Peru boasts the greatest variety of butterflies in the world, many of which can be seen at the Butterfly House. Upon arrival in Lima you will can catch your homeward bound flight.
