Day 1: Cuzco

We have arranged your flight from Lima to Cuzco - please make your own way to the domestic terminal (flight time to be confirmed). Welcome to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. At an elevation of 3400m above sea level, it’s important to acclimatise to the altitude so spend some time resting in your hotel after we transfer you from the airport.

Day 2: Cuzco - Aguas Calientes

This morning travel 4 hours by train to kilometre 104 - the start of the trail for us. From here, we have a walk of approximately 4 hours up to the Inca site Wiñay Wayna ('Forever Young'). You have joined the path in time to see the most impressive site on the whole Inca Trail! We will then continue on to 'Inti Punku' ('Sun Gate') from where you will have your first dramatic, panoramic view of Machu Picchu (2400m/7873ft). We will walk down the last part of the trail towards the ancient city itself. On this day, we walk through Machu Picchu, getting a 'taster' for the tour the next day! We finish the day going down to Aguas Calientes to have dinner and a good nights rest.

Day 3: Aguas Calientes

This morning embark on a 3 hours guided excursion to explore the citadel and the wonderful Temple of the Sun and magical Temple of the Moon. Other highlights include the fascinating Sacred Plaza and the elaborately carved Intihuatana rock. The afternoon remains free time for you to wander the ruins and walk up Huayna Picchu (No guide required - generally guides won't do this anyway). You can return on the shuttle bus at any time to your hotel in Aguas Calientes.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Cuzco

Spend the morning in Aguas Calientes - if you want to revisit Machu Picchu you can, you will just need to obtain an entry ticket locally for it. Later we assist with embarking the scenic train ride back to Cuzco. Disembarking in Poroy, meet our driver who will get you back to the city a little quicker, arriving around 7 pm or so.

Day 5: Cuzco - Puno

Today enjoy a spectacular 10 hour rail journey to Puno. Passing the gentle, rolling Andean Plains where vicuña and alpacas roam freely, the train climbs to 4335m above sea level at La Raya, offering incredible views of the towering, snow-capped Andean mountains. During the journey you will be served a three course lunch in the dining car followed by coffee served in the observation-bar car. Arriving into Puno in the evening you will be transferred to your hotel.

Day 6: Puno

Early this morning we board a yacht from Puno Port for a shared cruise and tour around the floating islands of Uros. Inhabited by fishermen and hunters, these beautiful islands are made from totora reeds and were built in order to escape the imposition of invading cultures. Your cruise continues to the genuine island of Amantani or Tequile, renowned for the fine crafts made by inhabitants. Enjoy lunch in the community before visiting the hilltop sanctuaries of Pachatata and Pachamama. You then return to Puno port arriving around 5 pm or so.

Day 7: Puno - Lima

This morning we transfer you to Juliaca Airport in time to catch the first flight of the day to Lima (usually departing around 8am). Arriving into Lima, meet our local team who will transfer you to your hotel situated in the historic centre of the city. Spend the afternoon at leisure wandering around the plaza and the surrounding buildings.

Day 8: Lima

Late checkout from your hotel is guaranteed today so head out and explore more of the city for today. Later, check out then our driver will get you to the airport in time for your 9pm flight home.
