Welcome to Peru and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! Upon your arrival into Lima international airport our local representative will be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure.
For centuries Lima was considered the most beautiful city in Spanish America and today discover why with a morning sightseeing tour (shared basis). Around the Plaza Mayor in the heart of the old town you’ll find the opulent facade of the Palacio de Gobierno, or Presidential Palace, where each day the ceremonial changing of the guard takes place. Nearby is the austere Catedral and various small palaces and balconied edifices that helped Lima claim UNESCO World Heritage status. Discover contemporary Lima in the form of the plush suburb of San Isidro and lively Miraflores before continuing to the quiet district of Pueblo Libre to see the stylish hacienda museum, which exhibits hundreds of excellently preserved ceramics.
After breakfast transfer to the airport for your flight to Cuzco, known to the Incas as the ‘navel of the world’. Tracing a particularly scenic course from Cuzco all the way to Machu Picchu, the Sacred Valley was greatly appreciated by the Incas due to its special geographical and climatic qualities and as such contains numerous archaeological remains and villages. On the way to tPisac stop to visit Awanacancha, an Andean textile centre where the art of Incan textile is kept alive. The archaeological complex of Pisac is formed of Incan dwellings, temples and terracing. Enjoy a spot of shopping and practise your bartering skills at the local market before stopping for lunch. The day of touring concludes with a visit to the impressive fortress and citadel of Ollantaytambo.
No place in Peru quite captures the imagination like the legendary ‘Lost City’ of Machu Picchu. Nestled in a saddle between two forested mountains and surrounded on three sides by the Urubamba River, its location couldn’t be more awe-inspiring. The city itself is brilliantly preserved, a classical Inca-style complex of polished dry-stone walls and temples. This morning explore the citadel and the wonderful Temple of the Sun and magical Temple of the Moon on a three hour guided excursion (shared basis). Other highlights include the fascinating Sacred Plaza and the elaborately carved Intihuatana rock. Lunch is provided at a local hotel.
Enjoy a day at leisure for you to independently explore the incredible Machu Picchu further. Later this evening we will transfer you to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.
Today explore the Sacred Valley further with visits to Andean villages south of the Río Urubamba. See the lovely paintings from the Cuzco School on display in the attractive colonial church of Chinchero. Continue to Maras where the original Indian aristocratic coats of arms hang on the outside of the church and houses. From here you can also see the salt evaporation ponds, a patchwork of 3,000 wells that have been used since the Incan Empire. Continue to the spectacular agricultural terraces of Moray, a circular system believed to have been used for agricultural experimentation during the Inca period. Return to Cuzco for overnight.
Considered the archaeological capital of South America, Cuzco is home to some of the finest examples of Inca history and architecture, which you will discover touring (shared basis) the sights of the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral and the Koricancha complex – a supreme example of Inca stonework. Head out further afield to tour the Kenko Amphitheatre, the fortified hunting lodge of Puca Pucara, the stunning imperial baths of Tambo Machay and the megalithic fortress of Sacsayhuaman.
This morning we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to back to Lima. Upon arrival you will be transferred to the bus station where you will board a public bus to Paracas, home to the Paracas National Reserve which was set up to protect marine wildlife. Upon arrival at the bus station in Paracas you will be met and transferred to your hotel.
This morning join a shared cruise to the Ballestas Islands, which has a dense population of birdlife including pelicans, penguins, boobies and cormorants. The waters around the islands are often full with sea lions. Returning to land you'll be transferred to the bus station for you public bus back to Lima for overnight.
This morning we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Santiago, the capital of Chile. Upon arrival our local representative will be there to welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. Later this afternoon enjoy a guided excursion to the Museo de la Memoria, dedicated to commemorate the victims of human rights violations during the military regime led by Augusto Pinochet between 1973 and 1990.
Encircled by snow-capped Andean peaks, the city of Santiago enjoys a particularly spectacular setting. This morning enjoy a city tour takes in the Metropolitan Cathedral, the La Moneda Presidential Palace and the Plaza de Armas where artists randomly appear to make theatrical performances. Jump on the metro for a short ride to the magnificent Santa Lucia park and its unique castle. Continue to the Lastarria neighbourhood to marvel at the neoclassical architecture and make the most of the many restaurants, coffee shops and green parks. Afternoon at leisure.
Today enjoy a full day excursion to Valparaiso and the Vina del Mar. The city of Valparaiso is spread over a crescent of hills hugging a wide bay and is known for its array of houses. Enjoy time exploring the labyrinthine streets and soaking up the panoramic view. North of the city is Chile's best known beach resort, Vina del Mar, with sheltered sandy bays and interesting corners of town where elegant villas and graceful gardens stand.
Discover why Chilean wines are so popular and world-renowned with a half day excursion to Vina Santa Rina, a winery in the Colchagua Valley. Learn about the different wines produced in the region and enjoy a chance to sample some of the local goods.
We say goodbye to Chile this morning with a transfer to the airport for your flight to Buenos Aires. Upon arrival into Buenos Aires you'll be transferred to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure.
Often labelled the ‘Paris of South America’, Buenos Aires, or simply BA, is a seductive mix of elegant architecture, characterful residents and fantastic entertainment options. This morning enjoy a guided city tour (shared basis) taking in the Neoclassical Metropolitan Cathedral, the unusual dusty pink Government House and the history-packed Plaza de Mayo. Head to the neighbourhood of San Telmo where street performers gather to display the sensuous dance of tango, and continue to La Boca, a colourful suburb popular with local artists. Wander the attractive streets of Palermo until you reach Recoleta and the famous cemetery of the same name.
Enjoy a half day excursion (shared basis) to the town of Tigre, which sits on an island bounded by three different rivers. Tigre was favoured by Argentina's elite during the late 19th century and the town is littered with sumptuous mansions. Later in the evening you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Esquina Carlos Gardel for a night of love, passion, madness and glamour with a traditional tango show. Born in the brothels of the 1920s, Argentine tango is a completely improvised dance and attracts both the old and the young.
Today is a free day for you to independently explore Buenos Aires. Later this evening enjoy a dinner Tango Show at El Viejo Almacen.
After breakfast this morning transfer to the airport for your flight to Puerto Iguazu, your base for exploring the magnificent Iguazu Falls. Straddling the border between Argentina and Brazil, the Iguazu Falls are composed of over 250 separate cascades. Today tour the Brazilian side of the falls, walking along catwalks that allow you to see the torrents of water at their most impressive.
Today enjoy a full day excursion to the Argentinean side of the falls. A number of walking trails are available bringing you in front of or above the rapids. You’ll also see the dramatic Garganta del Diablo or Devil’s Throat, an awe-inspiring display of natural power.
