Welcome to Cambodia and the start of your holiday with On the Go Tours. We'll be there at the airport to greet you and transfer you to your hotel in Siem Reap where the remainder of the day is free for you to relax at leisure after your international journey.
After breakfast at our hotel, we enter the South Gate of Angkor Thom Temple and marvel at the wonders of the eerie Bayon Temple, the terrace of Elephants and terrace of the Leper King. In the afternoon we visit the famous Angkor Wat, built for king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. The largest and best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre—first Hindu, then Buddhist—since its foundation. In the evening, enjoy the superb view of sunset from Phnom Bakheng hill.
Today we visit Ta Prohm Temple - the photogenic and atmospheric combination of trees growing out of the ruins and the jungle surroundings have made it one of Angkor's most popular temples. We also visit Banteay Kdei, a sprawling, largely unrestored, monastic complex in much the same style as Ta Prohm, and the Srah Srang, a royal bathing Palace, located east of Banteay Kdei. In the afternoon we set out for a cruise on beautiful Tonle Sap Lake, passing a floating village and seeing the daily life of local people there with time for shopping at a local market.
After breakfast, we will transfer to Banteay Srey, one of the most unusual temples of Angkor, Cambodia. It is built largely of red sandstone, which is covered with elaborate and deeply carved decoration. At Banteay Samre the style of the towers and balustrades bear strong resemblance to the towers of Angkor Wat. Many of the carvings are in excellent condition. We also visit Pre Rup, an architecturally and artistically superior temple-mountain, and Ta Keo Temple. Thommanon and Chay Sau Tevoda are both shrines built opposite each other and built during the second quarter of the 12th centruy.
After breakfast, visit Beng Mealea, a spectacular jungle temple around 60km drive to the north east of Siem Reap. It is one of the "new "highlights of Cambodia having only been cleared of mines at the end of 2003. Built by Jayarvaman VII in the style of Angkor Wat, its scale is huge being well over one square kilometre within its moat. Approached by four causeways, Beng Mealea appears to be a huge pile of rubble partially hidden in the trees. Once you get closer to the high walls, the ancient Khmer Architecture reveals itself. Cloaked in vegetation and with few concessions to tourism, this temple looks like it would have done when the early French explorers found it.
After breakfast we depart Siem Reap and drive to Phnom Penh, roughly a six hour journey. Upon arrival we will check in to your hotel and begin touring the capital's attractions. We begin with a visit to the Independence Monument displaying over 100 snake motifs. Continue to the 15th century stupa of Wat Phnom and in the evening enjoy a one hour boat cruise on the Mekong River.
After breakfast we visit the Toul Sleng Genocide Museum. Formed from the Tuol Svay Prey High School, it become a prison during the Pol Pot Regime (1975-1979), now it is museum that keeps the records of the regime's many victims. Choeung Ek, known as the Killing Field, is now a peaceful stretch of countryside where over 10,000 people were executed. The remains of some of them are stored in a memorial to remind people of the atrocities the Khmer Rouge inflicted on other Khmers. In the afternoon we enjoy a spot of shopping at the Russian market.
After breakfast, our driver will pick up you from your hotel lobby and directly transfer you to Kep. Upon arrival at Kep, check in to hotel with the rest of the day free for you to enjoy at leisure.
Founded as a colonial retreat for the French elite in 1908, the seaside resort of Kep is famed for its wonderful sunsets and delicious seafood. Discover the mid-20th century villas at your own pace or relax on the waterfront promenade.
After a leisurely breakfast, we will collect you from your hotel and transfer you to the beach resort of Sihanoukville. Surrounded by white-sand beaches and undeveloped tropical islands, Sihanoukville is the ideal place to relax for the next few days.
Today marks the end of your holiday with On the Go Tours. After breakfast our driver will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to the international airport in Phnom Penh for your onward departure journey.
