Today is the start of your Sri Lankan adventure. You will be met on arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel. The remaining time is at your leisure.
Today we drive to Giritale and check into hotel before an afternoon visit to Polonnaruwa. Polonnaruwa features 12th-century stone sculptures, an old irrigation system with huge tanks, and the Gal Vihara – comprising of three enormous Buddha figures - one reclining (it’s 44 ft/13 m long), one standing and one sitting. There are also palace ruins, great bas-reliefs and friezes.
Leaving Giritale, drive to Sigiriya, the elevated and mysterious 5th century fortress ruins of King Kasyapa, where you view the stunning frescoes. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel. Next visit the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple. Dambulla is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. Leaving Dambulla, the final stop of the day is Matale en route to Kandy.
Today we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela. This orphanage is the home for about 60 elephants, out of which some are baby elephants found abandoned. Afterwards we go to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Back in Kandy, a scenic lakeside town, visit the lake, bazaar, gem museum and lapidary. In the evening, visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and then enjoy a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.
En route to Nuwara Eliya – a scenic hillside town with a distinctly English flavour, visit a tea plantation and enjoy a tasty cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. In Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort, enjoy a sightseeing tour this evening, including a visit to Hakgala Gardens
This morning, check into your hotel in Embilipitiya before going wild on a jeep safari in Sri Lanka's most popular national park! Udawalawe National Park is home to large herds of elephants and deer species such as Spotted Deer, Sambhur, Barking deer and Langur, wild boar, water buffalo and jackal.
This morning after breakfast we take the road back to Colombo and then on to your beach break.
For the next few days you are free to relax and take advantage of the hotel's facilities. You can also relax on the beach, maybe partake in some of the watersports it just lie on the sunbed with beverage in hand and watch the world go by.
Today is the end of your time in Sri Lanka, after breakfast we will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight home.
