Day 1: Colombo - Giritale

Welcome to Sri Lanka! Our local representative will greet you at the airport and from here we transfer to Giritale.

Day 2: Giritale

Today we drive to Sigiriya, the elevated and mysterious 5th century fortress ruins of King Kasyapa, where you view the stunning frescoes. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. This afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa to see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in ‘Upright’, ‘Sedentary’ and ‘Recumbent’ postures are carved out of rock, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bathand the Parakrama Samudraya lake built by King Parakramabahu the great.

Day 3: Giritale - Kandy

Today we travel to Kandy, en route visiting the Dambulla Rock temple, a World Heritage site and the most impressive of Sri Lanka's cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. metres of painted walls and the ceiling is the largest area of paintings found in the world. Continuing to Matale to see the spices which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed.

Day 4: Kandy

This morning we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala, home for about 89 elephants, some of which were found abandoned in the wild. The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when you will see the baby elephants being bottle-fed. We then visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, built by a Sinhala king and expanded by the British. In the afternoon we have a city tour of Kandy, which was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. In the evening we visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and enjoy a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

Day 5: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Today we head to Nuwara Eliya, with a stop along the way at a tea plantation and be told all about the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded and taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. On completion, proceed to Nuwara Eliya which, because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery, is Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort. Sri Lanka’s highest mountain Pidurutalagala (8282 feet) is located here. This evening enjoy a sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya including the Hakgala Gardens.

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya

After breakfast we head to Embilipitiya and in the afternoon visit the Uda-walawe National Park by Safari jeep – The Uda Walawe National Park is approximately 30,821 hectares in extent and lies within the Ratnapura and Monaragala Districts. It comprises grasslands and thorn scrubs and large herds of Elephants and Deer species such as spotted Deer, Sambhur, Barking deer and Langur, Wild Boar, Water Buffalo, Jackal are some of the prominent wild animals found.

Day 7: Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya - Colombo

We head back to Colombo today, with stops enroute at Ratnapura, the gem capital of Sri Lanka where you have a guided visit to a Gem mine and the Gem Museum, and sightseeing tour of Galle Fort, built first by the Portuguese, and then modified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Even today, after 400 years of existence, it looks new and polished with reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka.

Day 8: Colombo

Today you bid farewell to Sri Lanka, we will transfer you to the airport for your onward flight.
