Day 1: Colombo

Welcome to Sri Lanka and the start of your holiday! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day/evening are at your leisure.

Day 2: Colombo - Habarana

After breakfast proceed on a sightseeing tour of Colombo. Drive through the Commercial area of the “Fort” so named, because both the Portuguese and Dutch had a Fort at this point. Drive passed “Pettah” – a noisy Oriental bazaar with a hotchpotch of Humanity, ancient vehicles, bargains, mosques & temples. Visit Hindu temple & drive pass Jumi-UL Alfar Jumma Mosque, Continue the tour through the Wolvendaal Dutch Church, Hultsdorf Law courts, to the residential area of Cinnamon Gardens and on to the Independence Square and Bandaranayke Memorial International Conference Hall. On completion leave for Habarana . En route visit the Dambulla Cave Temple.

Day 3: Habarana

today you will go on a sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa - which was the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka, built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD. Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya. Here you can witness the 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in ‘Upright’, ‘Sedentary’ and ‘Recumbent’ postures carved out of rock. Late this afternoon proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Minneriya National Park. The Minneriya Tank was created by King Parakramabahu at the height of Polonnaruwa’s glory as the capital of Sri Lanka. The national park based largely around the huge tank (reservoir) was created rather more recently but serves as an important gathering place for Sri Lanka’s large population of elephants.

Day 4: Habarana - Kandy

Today you will climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. Thereafter leave for Kandy. En route visit a spice garden in Matale to see the different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. This afternoon proceed on a sightseeing tour of Kandy. Thereafter visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya. In the evening proceed to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

Day 5: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

This morning we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala, home for about 89 elephants, some of which were found abandoned in the wild. The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when you will see the baby elephants being bottle-fed. We then visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, built by a Sinhala king and expanded by the British. Thereafter leave for Nuwara Eliya- en route visit a tea plantation and a tea factory. On completion proceed to Nuwara Eliya.

Day 6: Nuwara Eliya - Weligama & Mirissa

Morning proceed to visit Horton Plains - Horton Plains is located on a high windswept saddle at 2134 meters. These Plains are hard to reach but the scenery is well worth the effort. At Horton Plains, hike to the Bakers Fall, passing en route the Gem Pit Pool, the Chimney Pool, and the Leg of Mutton Pool. On Completion leave for Mirissa. OVERNIGHT- Number one Mirissa Hotel.

Day 7: Weligama & Mirissa

Early this morning you shall depart for the whale watching centre where you will embark on your expedition. Upon completion you will return to your hotel where you have the rest of the day at your leisure. OVERNIGHT- Number one Mirissa Hotel.

Day 8: Weligama & Mirissa

Today we bid you farewell.
