Day 1: Colombo

Welcome to Sri Lanka. We will be at the airport top pick you up and transfer to your pre booked hotel in Colombo. Remaining day at leisure

Day 2: Colombo - Habarana

This morning we meet you at your hotel and leave for Habarana – Check in at Chaaya Village 4* - (Deluxe Room). Late afternoon proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Minneriya National Park . The national park based largely around the huge tank (reservoir) was created rather more recently but serves as an important gathering place for Sri Lanka’s large population of elephants. It is a great place for elephant spotting all year round. Aside from the elephant, Minneriya is also home to some 23 other species of mammals: some, like the Deer and Sambur you will see, some like the Leopard and the Sloth Bear will probably prove elusive. Above all, of course, are Sri Lanka’s wonderfully varied bird population.

Day 3: Habarana

Today proceed to Sigiriya - Climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. Afternoon proceed on a sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD, and which is a world heritage site - Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya – where 4 splendid statues of the Buddha in ‘Upright’, ‘Sedentary’ and ‘Recumbent’ postures carved out of rock, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, king Parakramabahu’s statue, and the Parakrama Samudraya lake.

Day 4: Habarana

Proceed on a sightseeing tour of Anuradhapura - It was the first capital and undoubtedly the grandest city of the ancient Sri Lanka. Sri Maha Bodhi (Sacred Bo-Tree) was brought as a sapling of the tree under which prince Siddhartha attained to enlightenment and it is over 2,200 years old and is the oldest historically documented tree in the world. At Brazen Palace (2nd century B.C), the 1600 stone columns you see are all that is left of a magnificent multi-storied residence for monks. Samadhi' Buddha statue (4th century AD) is one of the most famous statues, depicting the Buddha in a state of 'Samadhi' or deep meditation. Isurumuniya rock temple (3rd century B.C) is well known for its rock carvings of 'The Lovers'.

Day 5: Habarana - Kandy

Today we drive to Kandy – En route visit the Dambulla Cave Temple. Dambulla is a World Heritage site and is the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. meters of painted walls and the ceiling is the largest area of paintings found in the world. These caves contain over 150 images of the Buddha of which the largest is the colossal figure of the Buddha carved out of rock spanning 14 meters. Also visit a spice garden in Matale, to see the different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. Proceed to Kandy – Check in at Cinnamon Citadel 4* - (Superior Room) –

Day 6: Kandy

Today enjoy city tour of Kandy - Kandy was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings, and is a World Heritage Site. Drive around the Kandy Lake built by the last Sinhala king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe in 1798. Visit the Kandy town and Bazaar, the arts & crafts centre and a gem museum Also visit the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya - . This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala king and was expanded by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers. In the evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and thereafter witness a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

Day 7: Kandy

Breakfast at hotel – Day at leisure to explore the vicinity – Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 8: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Morning proceed to the Peradeniya Railway Station to board the Expo Rail leaving for Nanu Oya - This dramatic ride will get you chance of viewing some of the magnificent sites of Sri Lanka. On arrival at the Nanu Oya railway station, meet up with the Chauffeur Guide and proceed to Nuwara Eliya - En route visit a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. On completion, proceed to Nuwara Eliya, because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery, is Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort. Nuwara Eliya is also the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country producing a significant share of the world’s best tea. Check in at Grand Hotel 4* - (Deluxe Room)

Day 9: Nuwara Eliya

Morning proceed to Horton Plains, The coldest and windiest location in Sri Lanka consists of ecosystems such as Montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and aquatic ecosystem. At an altitude of 2,100 meters above sea level, Horton Plains spreads across over 3,169 hectares of the highest tableland of the island. In view of the large number of endemic flora and fauna species, Horton Plains was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 30th July 2010. The escarpment with a depth of 900 meters called World’s End and Baker’s Falls are the highlights of the Horton Plains. On completion return back to the hotel

Day 10: Nuwara Eliya - Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya

Leave for Uda-Walawe – Check in at Grand Uda-Walawe Resort 4* - (Superior Room) – Evening proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Uda-Walawe National Park. Uda Walawe is the most reliable place to see elephants in their wild habitat year round. Some 400-500 elephants live in the park and herds of up to 50 are commonly seen. The park is also covered by some abandoned teak plantation and dense scrub jungle. As well as elephants, leopards live in the park, toque monkeys, grey langur, spotted deer, wild pig and sambar. There are numerous bird species of course and Uda Walawe is particularly rich in raptor species, among them the white bellied sea eagle and the crested serpent eagle.

Day 11: Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya

Proceed on another Jeep Safari to visit the Uda-Walawe National Park – On completion return back to the hotel – Rest of the day at leisure

Day 12: Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya - Yala National Park

Today we leave for Yala – Check in at Cinnamon Wild 4* - (Jungle Chalet) – Evening proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Yala National Park - This park is famous for its high density of leopards, perhaps the highest in the world. You are also sure to see elephants – grumpy loan males during the dry months and large herds in the wet season. You will also see mammal such as wild boars, several species of deer and wild buffalo. As is common in Sri Lanka there is a huge diversity of stunning birdlife including migratory species such as the flamingo. The uniqueness of the park is the sheer diversity of the habitat: dense jungles suddenly gives way to lagoons and open plain areas and the park has a simply beautiful sea front.

Day 13: Yala National Park

Proceed on another Jeep Safari to visit the Yala National Park specially to see Leopards - On completion return back to the hotel – Rest of the day at leisure

Day 14: Yala National Park - Galle

Breakfast at hotel – Leave for Galle – Visit the Galle Dutch Fort - The Galle fort was built first by the Portuguese, and then modified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Even today, after 400 years of existence, it looks new and polished with reconstruction work done by Archaeological Department of Sri Lanka. Today Sri Lankan government and many Dutch people who still own some of the properties inside the fort are looking at making this one of the modern wonders of the world. Check in at Cantaloupe Aqua 4* - (Aqua Zen Room) – Rest of the day at leisure on the beach

Days 15-16: Galle

Next 2 days at leisure. Overnight at Cantaloupe Aqua 4* - (Aqua Zen Room)

Day 17: Galle

Spend the day relaxing at your hotel before we travel via the coast road to Colombo and onward departure transfer to the airport.
