Habarana is a small city in the centre of Sri Lanka, 100km from Kandy. It is a popular destination for discerning travellers as well as safari lovers. One of Habarana's biggest draws is the fact that it is home to a number of safari parks. Hurulu Eco Park is a great place to head off in a jeep in search of the stunning wildlife that inhabits this part of the country. A vast array of birds can usually be spotted as can majestic elephants. In addition to the parks, Habarana is home to a number of high end luxury eco resorts. All scattered around the lush green surroundings and the nearby lakes.
Habarana is ideally located in the heart of the most popular area of Sri Lanka. With most of the famous UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Cultural Triangle close by, including Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Dambulla and Sigiriya, this city makes an excellent base for anyone hoping to do a bit of exploring. Anuradhapura is one of the most iconic sites in the country, filled with towering dagobas and crumbling temples, just waiting to be discovered.
While Anuradhapura might be one of the most popular attractions in Sri Lanka, Dambulla and the ruins of Polonnaruwa are not far behind. Both are striking in appearance and fascinating in a historical sense. One of the beat features of Habarana itself, other than its enviable location, is the beautiful lake that can be walked around in around an hour an a half.
