Welcome to Sri Lanka and the start of your holiday! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. After a chance to freshen up, we will take you on a sightseeing tour of Colombo.
En-route to Giritale, vist Sigiriya - climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. Visit the Dambulla Cave Temple and climb up to the temple. The complex of five caves has over 2000 sq. metres of painted walls and the ceiling is the largest area of paintings found in the world.
Today, we visit the Minneriya National Park. Covered an area of 8890 hectares, the park is an ideal place for elephant and leopard watching. It is is home to 24 species of mammals,160 species of birds , 75 species of butterflies, 9 species of amphibians, 26 species of fish and 25 species of reptiles. We then head to Kandy.
This morning we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala, home for about 89 elephants, some of which were found abandoned in the wild. The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when you will see the baby elephants being bottle-fed. We then visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, built by a Sinhala king and expanded by the British. In the afternoon we have a city tour of Kandy, which was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings. We then transfer you through to Koggala.
The next few days are yours to enjoy at leisure in Koggala, an ideal tropical beach with its sparkling warm blue seas and a lush fringe of palm trees, all bathed in warm golden sunshine.
