Welcome to Sri Lanka and the start of your journey through Indian Ocean Paradise! You'll be met at Colombo Airport and transferred to your hotel in Negombo. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax after your flight.
This morning we depart and enjoy a wonderful excursion to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela today. This orphanage is the home for about 60 elephants, out of which some are baby elephants found abandoned or orphaned in the wild. Afterwards, we drive onto your hotel in Sigiriya.
This morning a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Listed, 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. This afternoon, after checking into your hotel in Giritale, visit UNESCO Listed Polonnaruwa – an incredible 11th century city. Explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and Gal Vihara which boasts three enormous and revered Buddha figures.
Enjoy a full day round trip tour to Anuradhapura, the fascinating ancient city and one of Sri Lanka’s most important archaeological sites. It contains vast artificial lakes, temples, statues including the Samadhi Buddha, dagobas (solid hemispheres topped with spires), royal baths and museums. We also visit the holy Sri Maha Bodhi tree under which Prince Siddharta attained enlightenment. It is also the oldest historically documented tree on earth.
Morning depart for Kandy. Along the way, first stop is the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple which contain beautiful frescoes of Buddha. Then we visit ancient Polonnaruwa, an 11th century city of compact size. We explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and Gal Vihara which boasts 3 enormous Buddha figures. Before arriving in Kandy visit a spice garden in Matale to see the different spices that Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed.
Today visit Kandy, a scenic lakeside town to see the lake, bazaar, gem museum the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and a lapidary. Tonight, we visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic to witness the Esala Perahera (the festival of the tooth)
Departing Kandy, we head further into Sri Lanka’s hill country surrounded by tea plantations, one of which you will visit. Situated at 6,525 ft/1,990 m, Nuwara Eliya is one of the highest towns in the region. Today, we enjoy a sightseeing tour and visit Hakgala Gardens.
Today enjoy a time to explore in the morning at your leisure. Later we make our way to Yala. Arriving here, check into your hotel and relax for the remainder of the afternoon.
Proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Yala National Park – This park is famous for its high density of leopards, perhaps the highest in the world. You are also sure to see elephants. As is common in Sri Lanka there is a huge diversity of stunning birdlife including migratory species such as the flamingo. It is also one of the few places in the world where the severely endangered black necked stork can still be seen. On completion return back to the hotel – Rest of the day at leisure – overnight Yala.
After Breakfast this morning we make our way to Beruwala. Arriving here, check into your hotel and relax for the remainder of the afternoon. Overnight Beruwala.
Enjoy a day to soak up the sun on the beach or by the pool at your hotel.
Today we will drive you back to Colombo and check into your enchanting British Colonial heritage hotel, located on a beachfront within the city. Where you will enjoy the rest of your time in Sri Lanka at your leisure.
Sadly it is farewell Sri Lanka today, we will be sure to transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
