Drive to Giritale today, stopping en route to visit the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple. Dambulla is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the most impressive of Sri Lanka’s cave temples. The complex of five caves is the largest area of paintings found in the world. This afternoon, after checking into your hotel in Giritale, visit UNESCO Listed Polonnaruwa – an incredible 11th century city.
This morning drive to Sigiriya and explore the UNESCO World Heritage Listed, 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Discover the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. After exploring the sights of Sigiriya, stop to visit a Spice Garden in Matale, en route to Kandy.
This morning we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala, home for about 89 elephants, some of which were found abandoned in the wild. The best time to visit is during the feeding times, when you will see the baby elephants being bottle-fed. We then visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, built by a Sinhala king and expanded by the British. In the afternoon we have a city tour of Kandy, which was the last capital of the Sri Lankan kings.
Breakfast at hotel and then we leave for Nuwara Eliya. En route visit a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. You will be told all about the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded. Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. Proceed to Nuwara Eliya – because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery, is Sri Lanka’s most popular hill resort. Evening leave on a sightseeing tour of Nuwara Eliya – Drive through "Little England”
Morning proceed to visit Horton Plains - The coldest and windiest location in Sri Lanka consists of ecosystems such as Montane evergreen forests, grasslands, marshy lands and aquatic ecosystem. Thereafter proceed to the Nanu Oya Railway Station to board the Observation Saloon leaving at 1230Hrs for Ella an arrival at Ella railway station, meet up with the Chauffeur Guide and proceed to your hotel.
