Welcome to Sri Lanka, and the start of your journey through this Indian Ocean Paradise. You will be met at Colombo airport by our friendly local team and transferred to your hotel in Sigiriya.
Morning visit to the elevated and mysterious 5th century fortress ruins of King Kasyapa. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. Later we visit ancient Polonnaruwa, an 11th century city of compact size. We explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and Gal Vihara which boasts 3 enormous Buddha figures.
Today enjoy a thrilling Elephant Back Safari through the Forest & villages of Habarana. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to explore.
Morning we drive to Kandy. Along the way we stop to visit the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple which contain beautiful frescoes of Buddha. Then we visit ancient Polonnaruwa, an 11th century city of compact size. We explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and Gal Vihara which boasts 3 enormous Buddha figures. Before arriving in Kandy we also visit a spice garden in Matale to see the different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. (OVERNIGHT AT THE HILL TOP HOTEL)
Today, we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela, home to around 60 elephants. Continuing, we visit the ruined temples of Embekke, Gadaladeniya and Lankatilleke and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Back in Kandy, a scenic lakeside town, we visit the lake, bazaar, gem museum and lapidary. Tonight, we visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. After, we enjoy a cultural dance show. Departing Kandy, we head further into Sri Lanka’s hill country surrounded by tea plantations. Situated at 6,525 ft/1,990 m, Nuwara Eliya is one of the highest towns in the region. Today, en route we enjoy a visit to a tea plantation and then in town enjoy a sightseeing tour that includes a visit to Hakgala Gardens and a drive through "Little England”
Making our way to the sunshine coast today! We leave Nuwara Eliya and drive to your hotel in Negombo. Arriving here, check in and why not head out and enjoy a swim in the warm Indian Ocean. (OVERNIGHT AT THE GOLDI SANDS HOTEL)
