The next days are at your leisure, on Sri Lanka’s tropical palm-fringed coast.
This morning early we will make our way to Galle. Arriving here, spend the day exploring the old fort and colonial streets. Later we drive to our next destination that is Sinharaja Forest Reserve. (OVERNIGHT AT THE RAINFOREST ECO LODGE)
Today we will enjoy a full day jeep excursion to Sinharaja Forest Reserve aiming to arrive by 7AM, where we embark on a full day forest safari to see the varied flora / fauna, bird life and wildlife that dwells here. (OVERNIGHT AT THE RAINFOREST ECO LODGE)
Today and tomorrow are at your leisure to explore Sinharaja Forest Reserve. You can opt to book safaris, nature walks, birding excursions and so forth all of which are bookable and payable to the hotel. (OVERNIGHTS AT THE RAINFOREST ECO LODGE)
This morning we make our from Sinharaja over to our next natural port of call that is near Tissamaharama. Along the way we enjoy a full day jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park. This hotel at Tissa Junction is the perfect base from which to explore both Udawalawe & Yala National Parks being located between the two.
Today we enjoy a full day Safari by jeep in Yala National Park. The largest national park in Sri Lanka, Yala is home to elephants, wild boar, buffalo, leopard, crocodile and myriad bird life.
Today and tomorrow, you can book and pay with the hotel locally to have a jeep tour in Bundala National Park , Yala or Udawalawe National Parks depending on your preferences.
Continuing to our journey today to Nuwara Eliya, en route we visit the Mahayana Buddhist rock sculptures at Buduruwagala.
Today we depart early for Horton Plains. Located on a high windswept saddle, Horton Plains offers the walker stunning panoramic views. We’ll hike to Bakers Fall passing en route the Gem Pit Pool, the Chimney Pool, and the Leg of Mutton Pool and then return to Nuwara Eliya.
This morning we have a brief sightseeing tour of the city and explore enjoy wandering around Hakgala Gardens. In the afternoon we enjoy exploring a working Tea Estate to see how this famous drink is cultivated and processed on our drive to Kandy.
Today, we visit the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela, home to around 60 elephants. Continuing, we visit the ruined temples of Embekke, Gadaladeniya and Lankatilleke and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Back in Kandy, a scenic lakeside town, we visit the lake, bazaar, gem museum and lapidary. Tonight, we visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. After, we enjoy a cultural dance show.
This morning we explore Sigiriya – the elevated and mysterious 5th century fortress ruins of King Kasyapa. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the ‘Heavenly Maidens’ of Sigiriya, which are in a sheltered pocket of the rock approached by a spiral stairway. This afternoon we visit the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple which contain beautiful frescoes of Buddha.
This morning we visit ancient Polonnaruwa, an 11th century city of compact size. We explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and Gal Vihara which boasts 3 enormous Buddha figures. Our afternoon is spent enjoying a jeep safari in Minneriya National Park.
Today, we visit Anuradhapura, the fascinating ancient city and one of Sri Lanka’s most important archaeological sites. It contains vast artificial lakes, temples, statues including the Samadhi Buddha, dagobas (solid hemispheres topped with spires), royal baths and museums. We also visit the holy Sri Maha Bodhi tree under which Prince Siddharta attained enlightenment. Last stop for the day, is Mihintale which is where Buddism all began in Sri Lanka.
This morning we drive to Colombo city. Highlights of our tour in Sri Lanka’s capital include the Fort – once a colonial stronghold, Galle Face Green – a seaside expanse popular for informal cricket games, the Pettah – a noisy oriental bazaar, a visit to Gamgarama temple, Cinnamon Gardens and Independence Square.
Sadly your journey has come to an end, we will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
