Day 1: Colombo

Upon arriving in Colombo you will be transferred from the airport to the hotel.

Day 2: Colombo - Giritale

After breakfast at hotel, we depart for Giritale. This afternoon enjoy a sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa, the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD and a world heritage site. Here you can see the ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya with 4 splendid statues of the Buddha carved out of rock; the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath, King Parakramabahu’s statue, and the Parakrama Samudraya lake. There are also monuments of famous places of worship such as the Shiva Temple, the Lankathilake, the Watadage, the Galpotha, the Kiri Vehera and the remains of a former Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Day 3: Giritale - Kandy

Today we travel to Kandy, en route visiting the Dambulla Rock temple, a World Heritage site and the most impressive of Sri Lanka's cave temples. The complex of five caves with over 2000 sq. metres of painted walls and the ceiling is the largest area of paintings found in the world. Continuing to Matale to see the different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. Later this evening we visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and enjoy a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.

Day 4: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Morning visit the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. Thereafter leave for Nuwara Eliya – En route visit a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. You will be told all about the process of manufacturing tea. You can also see how tea is graded. Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea in the factory. On completion, proceed to Nuwara Eliya, because of its invigorating mountain climate and scenery, is Sri Lanka's most popular hill resort. Nuwara Eliya is also the heart of Sri Lanka's tea country producing a significant share of the world's best tea. Sri Lanka's highest mountain Pidurutalagala (8282 feet) is located here.

Day 5: Nuwara Eliya - Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya

After breakfast today you will proceed to Uda- Walawe. This evening proceed on a Jeep Safari to visit the Uda-Walawe National Park. This national park was established in 1972 to protect the catchment area of the Uda Walawe reservoir, crucial to the livelihoods of the farmers in the south east dry zone with the land only recently reverting back from cultivation, the park has some fascinating characteristics that make it well worth a visit.

Day 6: Udawalawe N.P. and Embilipitiya - Yala National Park

Continuing to Yala National Park, en route we visit the Mahayana Buddhist rock sculptures at Buduruwagala. This evening, we enjoy a jeep safari. The largest national park in Sri Lanka, Yala is home to elephants, wild boar, buffalo, leopard, crocodile and myriad birdlife.

Day 7: Yala National Park - Tangalle

Today we head to the beach at Tangalle and check you into the hotel. Relax on the palm fringed beach.

Day 8: Tangalle

Free day.

Day 9: Tangalle - Unawatuna

Today we continue on for your second beach stay, this time at Unawatuna, a semi circular bay and the reef that reputedly has more species of fish than the Great Barrier Reef. The water is warm and crystal clear so snorkelling, diving and wind surfing are all popular activities here. There is also lots of relaxing to be done on the pristine white sand. At the end of the beach sits a white Buddhist stupa on top of Rumassala Hill. It is covered in medicinal herbs and it is possible to hike around the area.

Day 10: Unawatuna

Day 11: Unawatuna

Today we enjoy a sightseeing tour of Sri Lanka’s capital to include the Fort, Galle Face Green – a seaside expanse popular for informal cricket games, the Pettah – a noisy oriental bazaar, a visit to Gamgarama temple, Cinnamon Gardens and Independence Square. . You will have a day use room, to freshen up in, before the transfer to the airport for your flight leaving at 01:00 on 16th March.
