Wadduwa is a small tropical paradise located in the south west of Sri Lanka. It is a perfect beach stay being only 35 kilometres from Colombo and boasts a long, golden sandy beach with crystal clear water. The beach itself is fringed with palm trees and it is possible to relax and watch the fishermen bringing in the day's catch.
Swimming, snorkelling and diving are all popular activities. However if you want to do something more local then try and catch a local wedding ceremony. Hundreds of local people get married here each year and it is a wonderfully colourful spectacle not to be missed.
There are a couple of bars and restaurants as well as stores selling Sri Lankan handicrafts and jewellery. The village itself has all the charm of a traditional village with a distinctly laid-back atmosphere. There are very few amenities available at the village as daytime and evening activities are organised at the beach hotels and resorts themselves.
Coconut fibre is a highly used local resource and you will find many products made using it, like brooms, carpets etc.
The train ride along the coast from Wadduwa to the south is well worth doing. It takes you on a pleasant picturesque journey along palm fringed beaches and local villages.
