Welcome to Indian Ocean Paradise! Arriving at the Teardrop Isles, Colombo international airport our friendly local team will be there meet you and drive you to Sigiriya. En route, a visit to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela, home to around 60 elephants that you will get to interact with.
Morning visit to the elevated and mysterious 5th century fortress ruins of King Kasyapa. The ‘Lion Rock’ is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. Then we visit ancient Polonnaruwa, an 11th century city of compact size. We explore the ruins of the Royal Palace, temples and Gal Vihara which boasts 3 enormous Buddha figures.
En route to Kandy, we visit the impressive Dambulla Rock Temple which contain beautiful frescoes of Buddha. Also, visit a spice garden in Matale, to see the different spices Sri Lanka is famous for. Arriving in Kandy, a scenic lakeside town, we visit the lake, bazaar, gem museum and lapidary. Tonight, we visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic. After, we enjoy a cultural dance show.
This morning we depart and visit the gorgeous Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. We then leave for Yala via Nuwara Eliya - but not without an en-route visit to a tea plantation and a tea factory, where the best tea in the world is produced. Spend some time in the lovely hill resort of Nuwara Eliya which is one of the highest towns in the region. When ready we drive to your hotel in Yala.
This morning, we enjoy a jeep safari in the largest national park in Sri Lanka. Yala National Park is home to elephants, wild boar, buffalo, leopard, crocodile and myriad birdlife. After, we drive to your hotel in Colombo, why not head out in your own time for an evening drink at the wonderful Galle Face heritage hotel.
Sadly your journey through Teardrop Isle comes to an end today, we will be sure to transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
