We are just back from our On the Go Tour - Journey to Angkor Watt and wanted to let you know what a great holiday we had. This was our first trip with On the Go and we could not fault it.
John our Vietnam tour guide, Som and Chandar the Cambodia tour guides were all brilliant.
We've seen so many beautiful places, temples, staying in good hotels and of course enjoying the lovely food. ”
Both the tour Guide and Driver were superb.
Just a few things that didn't quite match up with what was included in the itinerary.
Firstly a few things about the vehicle :,-
Firstly it wasn't a late model four wheel drive
Secondly there were no seat belts
Thirdly there was no bottled water supplied.
Something that could have helped given that we are photographers, would be windows that could be opened while traveling to shoot through. In order to make our images we needed to stop a lot which was a little hard on the driver as there weren't always places to pull over that were convenient. He certainly did the best he could however.
Regarding the accommodation:-
Our first nights accommodation wasn't where we were told it was going to be in our itinerary and really wasn't up to scratch. Our guide Chong rectified this as soon as he could but not before spending a night in a different hotel which was the Tian Hai Tourism Hotel in the Chinese part of town and not the Tangka Hotel which is right off the Barkhor Square in the Tibetan part of town. This hotel by the way is great! There also seemed to be some difficulty with our Hotel in Shigatse 'The Dragon Hotel' but again our guide made sure that was sorted.
I must admit that traveling outside of the main tourist season meant that many of the hotels facilities were closed but what we got in return was very few tourists - something I would always trade for.
Our Guide Chong, showed genuine enthusiasm in his work and gave us all we could ask in terms of understanding the Tibetan spirit. We would highly recommend him to anyone intending on doing a Tibetan tour.”
The tour was great and John really made it for me. I'd have preferred a little more authentic Vietnamese eating perhaps; sometimes that felt like we were in restaurants set up for tourists.
Other than that though, it was genuinely the experience of a lifetime and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
John was excellent and looked after us brilliantly. ”
