Welcome to Turkey and the start of your adventure with On the Go Tours! Upon your arrival at Istanbul's international airport our local representative will be there to greet you and transfer you to your hotel where the remainder of the day can be spent at leisure.
Today you will enjoy a full day guided tour of Istanbul. You will visit the Blue Mosque, The Topkapı Palace, Aya Sophia, Roman Hippodrome and the Grand Bazaar which includes over 4000 shops! The Blue Mosque is so named due to the blue tiles that line the walls.
After breakfast we will drive to Eminönü to visit the aromatic Spice Bazaar, where the smells of cinnamon, cloves and thyme rise from hundreds of colourful muslin bags at every store-front. You will then enjoy a Bosphorus Cruise through the waterway separating the two continent of Europe and Asia. There will be opportunities to take photographs of marble palaces, ancient wooden villas of Ottoman architecture besides modern residential and luxurious apartments.
After breakfast we drive to Gallipoli and see the River Clyde landed the men of the 29th Division on V Beach, Seddul Bair, and the nearby V Beach Cemetery. We then move on to Lancashire Landing, where the 1st Lancashire Fusiliers won six V.C.s before breakfast. (This visit requires some walking as the roads to the beach are not accessible by coach.) At X Beach we see where HMS Implacable landed 2nd Royal Fusiliers. After lunch , we look at the ground fought over by the British in the second phase of the campaign.
After breakfast we will drive to Troy, ancient site written about by Homer in the Iliad. As you enter the site a large wooden Trojan Wooden Horse dominates your view. After the tour we will drive to Pergamum Acropol one of the principle centres of Hellenistic civilization located 16 miles from the Aegean Sea. Here you will see the excellent public buildings and monuments including the celebrated Library, the steepest theatre of Anatolia, the Temples of Trojan and Dionysos, the place of the monumental Altar of Zeus famous with the relief of God and devils, the Sanctuary of Demeter, the Gymnasium situated on terraces and the lower Agora. PERGAMUM. Free time this morning before we take a leisurely drive to Selcuk and overnight at the St John Hotel.
After breakfast drive to Ephesus Ancient City. Enter through the Magnesia Gate and begin a slow, downhill walk into the ruins of this Roman provincial capital. Your route takes you past the Odeon, the Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Fountain of Trajan and the Great Theatre. The theatre had seating for 24,000, which was the site where it is believed St. Paul preached to the Ephesians and is used today for a local spring festival. Then we will visit Sirince, a beautiful hillside town famous for its grape and fruit wines. Formerly a Greek settlement, Turks were repopulated here after the exchange following WW I. Overnight at the St John Hotel.
