Welcome to Turkey! Arrive Istanbul airport and transfer to hotel in Sultanahmet. Rest of day free. Overnight - Istanbul
This morning, embark upon a fully guided tour of the only city that spans two continents, Europe and Asia. Before lunch, a visit to the Hippodrome area - famed as the centre of Byzantine life for 1000 years and of Ottoman life for another 400! Continuing, visit the stunning Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia, built by Emperor Justinian. Once a church, then a mosque, today it is a museum. After lunch, enjoy a visit to Topkapi Palace, residence of the sultans for almost 4 centuries and Suleymaniye Mosque, built by the greatest, richest and most powerful of Ottoman sultans - Suleymaniye I, better known as Suleymaniye the Magnificent. Overnight - Istanbul
Today, enjoy a visit to the Egyptian Spice market (stock up on bargain saffron, spices and Turkish delight here!) before enjoying a cruise on the Bosphorus, the body of water that separate European from Asian Istanbul. En route a visit is made to Rumeli Fortress, built in just 4 months in 1452 by Mehmet the Conqueror in preparation of his planned siege of Byzantine Constantinople. Enjoy lunch. Later, a visit to Beyerbeyi Palace in all its sultanate splendour and a chance to take in stunning views atop the city’s highest point - Buyuk Camlica. Fly to Cappadocia Overnight - Cappadocia
After breakfast and a good night’s rest, enjoy a guided tour of Cappadocia. The utter improbability of the seemingly surreal landscape has to be seen to be believed with its ‘stuff of fables’ cave dwellings and phallic ‘fairy chimneys’ landscape. A guided tour of the region takes us to the World – Heritage listed site of the Göreme Valley where you’ll see stunning examples of rock-cut Byzantine churches, chapels and temples and Zelve with its phallic-like eroded landscape. Stopping on the outskirts of Goreme Village we have the opportunity to see Pigeon Valley where century’s old pigeon houses are carved into the surrounding cliffs. This evening, we enjoy dinner at the hotel. Overnight - Cappadocia
Fly back to Istanbul: Rest of the day at leisure.
We say goodbye to our new friends, our tour concludes after breakfast and onward departure transfer to the airport.
