Day 1: Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul! We will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. As today is an arrival day, there is no formal sightseeing planned. Istanbul is one of the great cities of the world, with a history spanning thousands of years. It has been through several incarnations, firstly as Byzantium, then Constantinople and finally Istanbul. The city today is bustling and its streets are crowded with locals busily going about their daily lives. If you arrive early enough, you can wander and absorb the vibrancy of this exciting city that links Europe and Asia. In the evening there will be a Welcome Meeting (please check notice board for exact time) held in the pension, where you will meet your local tour leader.

Day 2: Istanbul

The next 2 days are flexible. You can join your guide on an orientation walk and get to know the Old city of Sultanhamet. Then visit the Blue mosque, Aya Sofia, the underground cistern or spend a few hours exploring Topkapi Palace. (You will need a good 2 hours for Topkapi ) The day is yours to do what you like. We will meet as a group in the morning to either group together or go our own way. There will be maps available to help you find places.

Day 3: Istanbul

Today you have the option to explore on your own, or join me on a small journey out to one of the Princes Islands. There are no cars here, so you can take a horse and cart up to a magnificent monastery and wander though streets full of incredible Ottoman style houses. It’s a beautiful area with few tourists. This will take up about 4-5 hours of your day. Alternatively, you can visit the Grand Bazaar or Egyptian Spice market, which are nearby to the pension.

Day 4: Istanbul - Cappadocia

This morning you’ll be transferred to the airport for the flight to Cappadocia. On arrival we will visit Pigeon Valley; giving the main information about Cappadocia and civilizations that have lived in the region at the best view point of pigeon valley. We head on to Uchisar Castle, the naturel rock castle from Roman Civilization. After this visit we will see Goreme Open Air Museum; the first Christianity traces, the first examples of cave Churces and fresques, the biggest cave monastic complex in Anatolia. We will have a pottery workshop in Avanos and transferred to our hotel after the tour. Tonight there is the option of a traditional Turkish night at one of the underground cave restaurants (own expense).

Day 5: Cappadocia

Early this morning you have the option of a hot air balloon ride over Cappadocia (own expense). Afterwards, we visit Kaymakli, the biggest underground city where Christians lived in fear and faith. We continue to Narligol, the crater lake between underground city and valley and we walk in Ihlara valley and visiting the cave churches. The valley is 14 km. long, 100 m. height and Melendiz river flows in it. We will visit a local village Belisirma; which situated in the valley, magnificent landscape, mosques, and churches of the region provide a richly textured panorama of Anatolian history, religion, culture, art, and architecture. There is an optional Whirling Dervishes show tonight (own expense).

Day 6: Cappadocia - Konya

Today we will drive to Konya, with a stop at Sultanhan Carvansarai along the way. Once in Konya we will visit the old city and the mausoleum of Mevlana. There is an optional Whirling Dervishes show tonight (own expense).

Day 7: Konya - Kas

We head to Kas today, a little harbour town, with its narrow cobbled streets and charming cafes

Day 8: Kas

This morning we drive to the port, where we will board our local boat for a relaxing cruise through a series of peaceful and picturesque islands, all with very distinctive rock formations. Look out for some ancient houses that are submerged under the clear water! Our cruise also takes us to the settlement of Ucagiz and also the quaint village of Simena, with its stone houses covered in bougainvileas. We can enjoy a spectacular view from the castle. We also sail from large bays to beautiful protected inlets, where we have the opportunity to enjoy some swimming off our boats. All in all it will be a day of relaxation and beautiful vistas. We will return to Kas for the evening.

Day 9: Kas - Pamukkale

Today we drive to Pamukkale and visit the ancient Hierapolis with the magnificent Necropolis, graveyard and the lime cascades. Continue to your hotel in the afternoon.

Day 10: Pamukkale - Kusadasi

Morning drive to Ancient city of Ephesus where we will visit its magnificent library, theater and temples, before returning to Kusadasi. In the afternoon we drive to Sirince and visit the charming Turkish Village, before having dinner. Overnight - Alish Hotel.

Day 11: Kusadasi

Today is at leisure. Overnight - Alish Hotel.

Day 12: Kusadasi - Canakkale

Today we head to Troy which is the site where the legendary Trojan War took place. Drive to Canakkale for your overnight stay.

Day 13: Canakkale - Istanbul

Today we will drive to Gallipoli and explore the WW1 battlefields on Gallipoli Peninsular and enjoy a guided tour of the evocative war memorials that dot the region, for example: Lone Pine, Chunuk Bair, Johnston’s Jolly, battlefields, trenches and Kabatepe - the modest ANZAC museum. We head on to Istanbul for our overnight stay.

Day 14: Istanbul

Day at leisure.

Day 15: Istanbul

Your Turkish adventure comes to an end today, with the departure transfer to Istanbul airport.
