Welcome to Istanbul and the start of your exclusive journey through the Land of the Sultans! Arriving into the airport, you will see our friendly local team eagerly awaiting, to drive you to your hotel.
Our guided exploration starts with the Dolmabahce Palace - This area was originally the bay where the navy anchored in the early periods when the Ottomans conquered Istanbul. We then continue with exploring the Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque and the Roman Hippodrome; once home to chariot races, gladiatorial battles and public executions, before trying your hand at a spot of haggling in the Grand Bazaar.
After breakfast, your guide will collect you to explore the Topkapi Palace, the main home of Ottoman Sultans. We then have a wander in the incredible spice Bazaar and a cruise on the Bosphorus River which allows you to see both European and Asian shores and take in the marvelous monuments and districts like: Maiden Tower (Kiz Kulesi), Dolmabahce Palace, Ciragan Palace and Ortakoy.
Leaving the big city we head down the coast to explore Troy, the ancient city made famous by Homer’s Odyssey and the fable of Helen, Achilles and the Trojan horse. After our guided exploration here, we drive on to Canakkale.
This morning, departing early we visit Bergama, the site of the ancient city of Pergamum which remained hidden from the modern world until 1871 when the German engineer Carl Humann rediscovered it when some locals showed him an interesting and strange mosaic that turned out to be the Altar of Zeus. Pergamum, one of Turkey’s oldest civilised settlements, inhabited since pre-historic times through to Ionic, Roman and Byzantine civilizations. You will have the chance to visit the ancient acropolis situated on top of a steep hill and the aforementioned Altar of Zeus. When complete we drive to the coastal city of Kusadasi.
This morning you will drive to the ancient and magnificent city of Ephesus, one of the largest and most well preserved ancient city’s in the Mediterranean, with Roman theatres, fountains, buildings, churches and temples. Ephesus was originally built on the north slope of Mount Pion in 1000 BC but was later relocated to its current location in 4th century BC. After, we visit the House of Mother Mary where she is supposed to spend her last years together with St. John, then drive to our hotel in Pamukkale.
After breakfast visit the incredible white calcium terraces of Pamukkale and ancient Hierapolis, with its Necropolis graveyard of over 1200 graves. The Temple of Apollo, the Plutonium, dating back to third century BC and the sacred pool are some of the highlights of Hierapolis. The shallow thermal waters ripple over a wonderful scattering of ancient roman ruins that lie beneath. We then, continue our visit with Aphordisias before driving to Konya for the night.
After a heart breakfast we explore the Mausoleum of Mevlana also known as the Green Mausoleum or Green Dome, is the original lodge of the Mevlevi Whirling Dervishes, a mystical Sufi Muslim group. After, we visit the 13th century Seljukian masterpiece of Sultanhan Caravanserai before continue the drive to Cappadocia.
Spend the entire exploring the regions valleys to see the remnants of some older churches, rock formations, Zelve valley and Kaymakli Underground City, the place early Christians hid from persecutors. Stop by Avcilar and pigeons valley to experience the moon-like topography of Cappadocia continue to Open Air Museum in Goreme to see the best examples of Byzantine art in Cappadocia in rock-cut churches with frescoes and paintings. Proceed to the pottery town of Avanos where Kizilirmak (Hallys), the longest river of Turkey, meanders leaving the red clay on its banks that has been the raw material of pottery for centuries.
Sadly your journey exploring this wondrous land has come to an end, we will transfer you to Kayseri Airport in time for your flight home.
