On arrival into Siem Reap you will be met by our rep and transferred to your hotel. After time to freshen up we visit the last capital of the Angkorian Empire Agkor Wat. This breathtaking monument of man’s devotion to his gods is believed to be the largest religious building in the world and contains thousands of wall carvings and extensive bas-reliefs.
Early this morning opt to see Angkor Wat bathed in the spectacular golden light of sunrise. Later, we head out to Banteay Srei temple, considered by many to be the art gallery of Angkor with some of the finest stone carvings in the world. Cut from stone of a pinkish hue, the Hindu temple is dedicated to Shiva and contains lavishly decorated libraries and stunning reliefs of divinities.
This morning after breakfast we have some time to walk around the town, later on we head to the port for the boat to Battambang. An interesting and very scenic journey along small rivers, the boat threads it's way through numerous charming floating villages and past dozens of towering cantilevered fishing net installations. Upon arrival into Battambang you will be met by a guide an taken you to your hotel, the remaining time you have at your leisure.
This morning after breakfast we head towards Phnom Penh. On arrival you will be taken to your hotel. After a quick freshen up a sightseeing tour of Phnom Penh starting at the National Museum of Fine Arts, a graceful terracotta building of traditional design housing the world’s finest collection of Khmer sculpture. We continue with the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, famed for its lavish decorations – the floors are paved with silver tiles and statues of Buddha are encrusted with thousands of diamonds.
Today we come face to face with the horrors of the Pol Pot regime as we visit Toul Sleng (Security Prison - S21), a school that was gruesomely transformed into a torture chamber under the Khmer Rouge, and visit the Killing Fields where over 10,000 people were executed. The evening is at your leisure.
Today we board a boat for a cruise down the Mekong. The cruise liner then sets sail for a lazy day of cruising along the main Mekong Channel. We bask in the glow of the afternoon sun on the sun deck. Choose to pamper your selves silly at the Spa, or sharpen our culinary skills with Cambodian and Vietnamese cuisine cooking class.
Welcome to the fish sanctuary of Vietnam. We begin our day with a hearty breakfast at the Dining Hall or in the quiet sanctuary of your balcony. We will brace ourselves for a short excursion in Chau Doc, a pleasant town near the Cambodian border with sizeable Chinese, Kinh and Khmer communities. We will also visit the colorful local market near an ancient temple. This is followed by a trip to the quay, where we will be feted to a boat excursion to the floating market and rustic catfish farms.
In the morning, we embark a traditional sampan (a flat bottomed traditional Vietnamese wooden boat) to tour Binh Thanh Island and its man-made canals. After lunch on board, the Ship arrives in Cai Be. The tour starts with a visit to Cai Be’s boisterous and colorful floating market where traders gather in a cacophonous congregation. We then board the ship for a tranquil evening cruise towards My Tho. A wonderful farewell party awaits us on the terrace deck.
Arrive into saigon - as Saigon to all but city officials is Vietnam's most lively, modern and cosmopolitan city. This afternoon enjoy an orientation tour of the city, visiting Notre Dame, an impressive neo-Romanesque Cathedral, the Central Post Office Building, Dong Khoi Street, formerly the center of haute couture and China Town. This evening consider sampling some of Saigon's acclaimed gourmet restaurants and bars.
Today we fly to Phu Quoc, upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel.
Today we head back to the airport for your onward flight back to Saigon.
