After breakfast, free time until your transfer to airport for the flight to Siem Reap. Upon arrival in Siem Reap, you will be transferred to your hotel and spend the rest of today free at your leisure. The provincial capital of Siem Reap is a bustling tourist destination due to its proximity to both the ancient Khmer national capital city of Angkor and Tonle Sap Lake. Angkor Wat, the world's largest religious monument, is the spiritual and cultural heart of Cambodia. The huge complex of palaces and temples were built on the sprawling alluvial plain to the north of Tonle Sap.
This morning enjoy an early breakfast at your hotel before watching the sunrise over Angkor Wat. The 12th-century temple took 30 years to build and represents the Khmer civilisation at its grandest. We then continue to the fortified city of Angkor Thom. Start at the Southern Gate, flanked by a row of 54 stone figures on each side, followed by the Bayon and its beautifully crafted central towers. From here you visit Baphoun, Phimeanakas, the Elephant Terrace, and the Terrace of the Leper King. After lunch you will see Ta Prohm, undoubtedly the most atmospheric ruin at Angkor. Unlike the other monuments of Angkor, it has been left to be swallowed by the jungle. Later watch the sunset over Angkor Wat.
After breakfast we take a boat trip on Tonle Sap Lake, visiting floating fishing villages complete with schools, restaurants and even a hospital. Tonle Sap is called the ‘Great Lake’ and is one of the two major topographical features of Cambodia. During the rainy season it can swell from 3,000sq km to 7,500sq km. Tonle Sap is one of the world’s richest sources of freshwater fish. After lunch explore the Small Circuit of temples including Kravan, BanteyKdei, SrahSrang, Ta Prohm, Takeo, Thammanon and Chau Say Tevoda.
Today you bid a fond farewell to Cambodia. We will transfer you to the airport in time for your flight home.
