Welcome to Cambodia! Upon arrival we will pick the group from the airport and transfer you to the hotel for the evening.
Today we will visit Phnom Penh's most important places of interest including the infamous Tuol Sleng Prison and the 'Killing Fields' - both stark reminders of Cambodia's tragic recent history during the Khmer Rouge reign from 1975-1979. It was during this relatively brief time a little know teacher named Pol Pot instituted a reign of terror over the country and implemented a plan to turn Cambodia into an agriculture-based society, systematically empty the cities and forcibly moving the people onto collective farms where they performed hard labour. After lunch at the Bodhi Tree Restaurant. we have time to explore the Russian market and refine our bargaining skills. Welcome dinner in local restaurant along the Mekong River.
We will embark on boat to visit Mekong Island, or Koh Dach, is an island in the middle of the Mekong about 10 kilometers from the center of Phnom Penh. It is well-known for its silk-weaving villages and is an oasis of tranquility. Return to Phnom Penh for lunch at Friend Restaurant. Later we will visit Wat Phnom by Tuk Tuk, a 15th century stupa. Wat Phnom, a small hill crowned by an active wat (pagoda) marks the legend of Phnom Penh City. Independent Monument, 100 Naga construction. Wat Phnom: the only one hill in Phnom Penh and historical of Lady Penh, and Phnom Penh City. Afterwards we visit CCF. Tonight transfer to Star Restuarant are included (dinner not included).
Today we will visit Tiny Toones with the chance to interact with the kids there. This afternoon, we will then farewell Phnom Penh and take the 6 hour bus trip to Siem Reap. Early evening we take an orientation walking tour to acquaint ourselves with Siem Reap.
Early breakfast then we will visit the magnificent Angkor temples. Among the temples we will visit will be the imposing Bayon Temple with its famous faces representing one of the former kings and the most imposing temple of them all - Angkor Wat. Time permitting will also visit the beautiful Ta Prohm temple famous for its tapestry of trees intertwined within the temple structure. Here the option for an optional elephant ride (USD$15 per person to be paid locally). This evening enjoy dinner dinner at Phare circus together with show.
Over the coming two days we will undertake a community project at Phum O Village to assist an impoverished community. Whilst rewarding, the days ahead will be long so it is very important students are in good health for this component of the trip and that they drink plenty of water throughout the day and eat well. NB: Full details of this project to be advised. (A bus and guide will be available each day). This afternoon we visit to “Get Set Go”. This evening we will enjoy dinner at the Shadow of Angkor
Today continue our project at at Phum O Village.
This morning we will wake up at 5am and visit the magnificent Angkor temples for sunrise. Return to hotel for breakfast then spend the rest of day free at leisure.
This morning we will enjoy a day trip to the sacred Cambodian site of Mount Kulen (by small bus) north of Siem Reap. En route we will stop at the pink sandstone Banteay Srei temple and the Land Mine Museum to learn more of the terrible legacy of conflict in Cambodia last century. Upon arrival at Mt Kulen we will enjoy a picnic lunch before exploring the area. Some of the nearby attractions include a reclining Buddha, ancient river bed carvings as well as a magnificent waterfalls. This place being a popular day trip for the locals. We will return to our hotel late this afternoon to freshen up before heading dinner and some time for independent exploration. Farewell dinner at The Nest Angkor Restaurant.
Today we will visit Kampong Phluk is a cluster of three villages of stilts houses built within the floodplain of the Tonle Sap lake about 16 km southeast of Siem Reap. Flooded mangrove forest surrounds the areas and is home to a variety of wildlife including crab-eating macaques. Enjoy taking Ox-cart riding in the village and small wooden boat to see floating mango forest. After lunch, we will enjoy the rest of time in Cambodia by exploring Siem Reap on your own. Bargain for silk scarves or shadow puppets at Psar Chas, the Old Market, or relax into a wicker chair in a sidewalk café. We will transfer you to the airport for your flight back home.
