Moscow Madness - 4 days

Short, sharp and sweet, this city break takes in the once capital of Communism, Moscow, and its most famous sites. From Red Square and St Basil's to the Kremlin all topped off with a Russian New Year in Red Square.

Day 1: Moscow
Monday 29 December 2014. Welcome to Russia and the start of your winter holiday! Upon arrival you will be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in. This evening our welcome meeting will take place, where you'll meet the rest of your group and guide. Spend the remains of the evening at leisure, perhaps enjoy a few drinks in the bar and get to know your new travelling companions. Overnight - Moscow
Day 2: Red Square
First thing this morning we will hop on the Moscow Metro and make our way to legendary Red Square. As the historical, political and social heart of Moscow, this famous square is home to some of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Within the Red Square we will find the iconic domes of St Basil’s Cathedral, the imposing red brick walls of the Kremlin and the glitzy Neo-Russian facade of the GUM shopping mall.

Also in Red Square, housed within a red and black marble building, is Lenin's Mausoleum. If open, we can enter the mausoleum free of charge and pay our respects to the grandfather of Communism whose embalmed body has lain in state here since his death. Later in the day, we can take a journey on the Stalinist-era Metro, to view some of the gold gilded frescoes that adorn many of the stations or go ice skating with your tour leader in Gorky Park.

During our stay in Moscow there will be the chance to join one of our optional evening excursions, such as a traditional Cossack Show or a Moscow by Night coach tour. Overnight - Moscow (B)

Day 3: The Kremlin
Journeying back to Red Square this morning, we will embark on a guided tour of the Moscow Kremlin - Russia’s bastion of power. Walking through the grounds we’ll see numerous governmental buildings, gold-domed cathedrals and the tsar bell.

The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy the final day of the year your own way. There’s plenty of museums, shops and bars to entertain you in the capital. For your New Year’s Eve celebrations there’s no shortage of bars and nightclubs, otherwise head to Red Square with your guide to join the crowds - of both locals and travellers alike, to ring in the New Year. With an electric atmosphere and a spectacular firework show illuminating the distinctive turrets of St Basil’s Cathedral above the frosty square, this will be a party to remember! Overnight - Moscow (B)
Day 4: Moscow
