The Ancient Land of Syria

I’ve just come back from one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. The modern capital of Syria and one of the world’s oldest continually inhabited cities-Damascus. Sometimes I felt that I was in Rome, surrounded by narrow streets, charming squares and great architecture. But sometimes(especially in Christian Quarter )you might feel like you’re in Soho: many bars, restaurants and cafés, European-dressed local boys and girls. You won’t see many people wearing traditional Middle Eastern clothes in Damascus. Unlike in neighbouring countries, you will find many places that sell beer and other alcohol. Interesting fact: the word ‘alcohol’ comes from Arabic.
