Not so … When I visited the Western Desert in Egypt I had the strangest of experiences – standing in an open air shop wanting to buy something without the shop owner in sight! I went outside trying to find the owner outside, but no luck. I asked a galabeya clad local walking past if they knew where the owner was – but no. In the end my bus was departing and I had to leave behind all that amazing jewellery for the next – luckier traveller!
Western desert? More like Western deserted…
