If you’ve run out of churches and historical buildings to visit in Moscow, then step down underground to explore “the most beautiful transport system in the world”. Moscow underground system is really unique. It is the world’s second most heavily used rapid transit system after Tokyo but its stations looks like ballrooms or palace chambers. Moscow metro is world famous for its marble stations with mosaics, chandeliers and precious materials. Looking at these beautiful interiors made from marble, not many people know that some of these materials were taken from the demolished Cathedral of Christ the Saviour due to Stalin’s order. The Moscow Metro is something not to be missed if planning a weekend in Moscow!
As often in Russia: beauty has its own dark side.
