Our three hour ride cost a mere 50 Yuan (or $8.25 AUD) which is more than reasonable. The majority of the tourists hire bicycles to explore the area, but for a few dollars more the scooters provide a far less strenuous option. They’re perfect if your legs are feeling weary. However they still allow you to get into the small villages and dirt bike tracks to see some great views of the limestone mountains that the area is famous for. It’s also an easy way to blend in and see locals going about their daily lives. You might see local fishermen catching fish with trained cormorants, or village children paddling out to cruise boats to sell souvenirs.
So if you’re not up for rock-climbing, swimming in the Yu Long River or heading out on one of the area’s many hiking trails, relax and see Yangshuo from the road.
